I cannot stress enough that the permitting reform bill will rescind the NHPA and 60 years of preservation practice. There will not be a CRM industry in January. Data centers will go unchecked. Transmission lines will run through the Sand Creek Massacre site. THPOs will be run by the federal gov.

Killed. NSF’s SBE was killed, in violation of law. The President does not have the power to choose to kill programs at a whim by defunding them. The imperial presidency was a mistake and we are in a separation of powers constitutional crisis.

The fiscal year is over. The dying Social, Behavioral, and Economic division of NSF ended up awarding 90 total grants this year, as opposed to ~700-800 in recent past years. Source: grantwitness.org/nsf/analyses...

The graph shows the cumulative number of awards made by month across this fiscal year, as compared to the last 6 fiscal years. The line for this year is total flat until June, but then finally gets up to 91 by October. In prior years the increase starts building earlier and ends on average in the 700-800 range (with variability, last year was only between 400-500).

Before I went off to college in Ohio in the 90s, my father warned me I’d be mocked for being from the Deep South. I didn’t believe him. I was incorrect. My accent now is a melange of Yorkshire mixed with southern Appalachian, but that’s contextual and I will defend regional accents to the death.

THIS. My high school had like an entire section on teaching kids to speak formally, by which they meant ‘not from (wherever the kids are from)’. I had to work to claw that back. And I hate being online and seeing folk tell me I oughta be ashamed to be from the South. Naw.

The treatment of Jason Arday was massively out of proportion to his faults. People who have committed terrible crimes have received less scrutiny, yet I don't believe anything he did or said even crossed the threshold of criminality. How many of us would have survived what he was put through? 🧵

The man's skeletal injuries looked like a train hit him, but he died in 1304 CE. At #ppa26Berlin last week, @uniofbradford.bsky.social scientist Jo Buckberry concluded he was likely whacked by a flying boulder, making him the first confirmed trebuchet death in the archaeological record. @science.org

The federal government told the Klamath Tribes they weren't a "salmon tribe" because dams wiped out their fish 100+ years ago. So the Yurok Tribe applied for the $5.9M grant & passed the funds through. This is Indigenous solidarity in action. www.hcn.org/articles/the...

The Klamath Tribes couldn’t get federal dollars for salmon. Then the Yurok stepped in - High Country News

For more than 100 years, salmon had been absent from the Klamath Tribe’s lands — a fact that cut them off from funding sources to fix that.

Just after the battle of Gettysburg, Lt. Frank Haskell of Wisconsin set down his memories of the fight as he had witnessed it from his perspective as a division commander’s aide de camp. I like to revisit it every year because of the way Haskell uses his words to paint a vivid picture for the reader

Concerned dads will be asking to inspect your 10yo daughter's genitals and this will be used to cover for pedophiles, mark my words. Black girls will be raped and white men who do it will be celebrated for protecting white sanctity.

The ban is heinous for what it does to transgender athletes. But if you think cisgender girls and young women won’t be caught up in the fallout, too, you are woefully ignorant
