The divide that now seems apparent is between optimizing and experiencing. Someone needs to write “Cat’s in the Cradle,” Silicon Valley edition.

Staying at a hotel on Zorn Ave in Louisville. There used to be a Ramada next door, but they tore it down and used the pieces to make two hotels of the same size.

During the Great Resignation of 2021, I hoped employers might get rid of some of the pointless hoops that they make prospective employees jump through, the stuff that clearly has nothing to do with how good you'd be at the actual job. It turns out that that will never happen.

Is asking someone to leave the beverages at home for an interview as fussy as reminding a lady to wear pantyhose or a gentleman to ask before lighting a cigarette? We assembled a team of Post staffers across the newsroom — and commenters — to find out: https://wapo.st/4dwx0LS

“[A] sprightly debut . . . Edwards writes with flair.” —NYTRB “A snappy valentine to a bygone era . . .” —Kirkus Reviews “For fans of hardboiled PIs with hearts of gold.” —Library Journal “Edwards nails the tone, with dialogue and milieu evocative of classic noir.” —Bookpage

Hey, #BookSky Did you know that you can buy all my eBooks through @bookshop.org? The entire Girl Friday Mystery series is available: bookshop.org/p/books/vivi...

a trio of hardcover books featuring a cartoon woman in a green dress, invariably smoking a cigarette in some kind of noir setting. VIVIANA VALENTINE: GETS HER MAN, GOES UP THE RIVER, and AND THE TICKING CLOCK

since the podcast is talking to authors about movies, i sometimes feel like i should maybe start adding movie people talking about mystery novels.

Jackie McMahon wrote an excellent 1930s historical mystery, THE CLOAK AND DAGGER CLUB. And for @screensleuthspod.bsky.social, she chose the perfect film: Robert Altman's GOSFORD PARK Check out the ep, debuting today: silverscreensleuths.riverside.com

Tonight's final share! If you're a film lover and looking for thoughtful, analytical deep dives into cinema, this is a must. Yes, I'm biased cause I wrote it. But if you're sick of reading the same listicles and low-hanging fruit, subscribe and help me write more stuff like this.

This might be my best article on The Film Maven all year. I wrote 2500 words grappling with revisiting 9/11 cinema, seeing these events through film, the stories we choose to tell and the historic liberties we're willing to accept. I'm really proud of this one. thefilmmaven.com/movies-about...
