Sherry Turkle has some great interviews about this from the 80s. Men who preferred tinkering with computers over dating because they knew women were humans with their own desires who have autonomy and deserve respect. E.g. they might not agree on a restaurant, and these men had no desire to impose.

My methods training was okay to good but it definitely left me with the impression that analysis was something like 80% estimating 15% presentation 5% wrangling and it’s actually 96% wrangling
I reviewed two papers today at complete opposite ends of the quality spectrum. I'm glad I finished my day with the really good one.

I do think chatbots have radically altered people's sense of lying and cheating. Students who would never pay someone to write an essay happily pay a bot. Lawyers and academics who wouldn't otherwise fabricate evidence shrug and say "oops" if a bot does it for them.
