Warning: This is graphic, but it's the reality of what Trump is sending hardworking Ohio Haitian families back to after ripping away their legal status and refusing them protection in America. I do not understand the heartlessness of those cheering this on. It's ugly and sick.

Somewhere in a sweltering desert, cockroaches scurry around the cell of Carlitos Ricardo Parias. He holds up a plastic bottle, gazing at the worm-like creatures swimming in his water. His other arm is turning purple from a gunshot wound for which he says he hasn’t received proper medical care.

Immediately after Jan 6, Trump’s approval ratings tanked to the lowest point of his first term (to roughly where they are right now, in fact). It was only as time went on, and elite institutions signaled that maybe it hadn’t been such a big deal, that people stopped caring as immediately

As silly as the whole "the right has no cultural influence" argument is, the whole edifice is indeed a depressing look into the mind of a typical American swing voter

Rethinking most political engagement as a form of prompt injection is grim and a little dystopian but also better than what 70% of people doing political engagement today come up with

The White House Correspondents Association should have announced that they are disbanding until the next administration to focus on purely adversarial coverage. Instead they offered to work with Trump on a plan to get them killed next time.

Trump leaving journos on decoy plane after viciously attacking them at a press dinner that feted his power neatly captures how media submits to his authoritarian abuses. And nothing will be learned from it, as @sulliview.bsky.social says on our pod. She's great here: newrepublic.com/article/2142...

And which is more serious: 1) A silly campus protest 2) Someone said a mean thing Leftishly 3) Armed agents of the state murdering people 4) A political party using the state to silence dissent. (3) and (4) are very obviously a much bigger deal than (1) or (2), not that you can tell from the NYT.

My favorite eclipse experience was 2017, on the campus of Tennessee State University, an HBCU my family was closely tied to a couple generations back. Hearing the marching band leader shout "it's the eclipse y'all!" as the totality struck was icing on a very big cake

The perfect MAGA "self-made man." Mom helped him lie to investors about a drug, giving patients false hope. He cashed out for $260m, and then the stock dropped like a rock. One teacher's union retirement fund lost $1 million. Dude made his fortune on the backs of Alzheimer patients and teachers.

How Vivek Ramaswamy’s mom manipulated Alzheimer’s data and made her son rich

Vivek Ramaswamy, a billionaire and the Republican nominee in Ohio’s gubernatorial race, served as the frontman for a dubious pharmaceutical company and then cashed out weeks before its dramatic crash.

John Fetterman's appearance on WaPo's Make It Make Sense podcast—in which he spends a good portion of it trashing Abdul El-Sayed—has generated only 3,600 views in two days, despite getting a lot of play on Fox. Also, he'll apparently wear a suit for a podcast nobody watches -- but not for his job.

To a first approximation the problem with the old guard "center-left" is that they've spent so much time watching the slow death of organized labor that they never bothered to imagine, well, organizing labor
