9/11 was our covid in terms of a mass casualty event that could have triggered positive changes but instead everybody went insane

There is something kind of unsettling in the fact that according to replies here everyone has the exact same junk drawer. Like pulling out the drawer just opens a portal to The Universal Junk Drawer and we all just draw directly from that.
for a junk drawer to legally qualify as a real junk drawer, what is the ONE absolute mandatory item it must include? a mysterious key that does not unlock any thing
NYT wanted to write a story about "moderate Dems go to war with DSA," looked around, and the best they could find was a *proposal* by Third Way to spend $15M against left candidates. The story is not evidence that *Democrats* and the left hate each other... it's evidence that the NYT hates both.
This may be a joke but when I had two toddlers I simply bought identical socks in bulk and filled an empty diaper box with them so I never had to work to pair them, and lost or too dirty socks were not a problem, aka: DISPOSABLE SOCKS FTW
DISPOSABLE CLOTHES
"The cost to replace each camera and pole is approximately $3,000." The cost to not replace them is free!
Throw back to the time I learned colors are caused by reflected light waves. I was too old for a temper tantrum but young enough to succumb to The Angst and Despair of it All
My 4-year/old just learned about the concept of infinity and is now throwing a tantrum over it. “It’s weird! I don’t like it. I just want numbers to stop!”
does wheat bread taste like bananas or is my period on its way? (Title of my current research project)
Looks like a 10-15 point polling miss in Michigan regardless of who wins. And people have been writing a lot of electability takes using this data. It’s dangerous out there folks be safe
This thread made me grateful I read the original unpopular take it responded to. Sometimes we need to look at unpopular takes to see what is true and where our thinking is muddied! At least it was helpful for me - thank you Nathan 💕
I think this is fundamentally wrong but in an interesting way I will need to write about sometime. The key is a) consumers do not choose what is produced, or how, they choose between what is produced. This is a crucial difference
Real talk: a lot of people who should be diagnosed as antisocial (or rather, its childhood equivalent, oppositional defiant disorder) are instead diagnosed as ADHD. And uh...I think this dude is a perfect example of that. Right down to the "wanting to be a cop" part.
Incidentally, this is why I never expect a follow back when I hit that follow button - hitting follow just means I liked a post I saw, I think you’re human, and I hope to see your posts in my feed in the future. NOTHING MORE!!
Ok, spent ten minutes and found it absolutely mind numbingly impossible so anyways, just a reminder that just cause we get followed doesn’t mean it’s by an account worthy of a follow back
I worry that following so many and having few followers marks me as a scam but I gotta work on combing thru and block a shitton of non legit followers now, cause fuck the scammers.
I just subscribed to this block list, and I really appreciate the public service provided here
There are plenty of institutional reasons working class & vulnerable kids will never have the life they should have had but Still Being Alive & Having Alive Parents since the pandemic started isn’t one of them man.
There are working class and vulnerable kids who will never have the life they should have had because of school closures. Let’s address that too, shall we?
You say you want to get rid of the police - sure buddy, just wait until you need someone to turn up 2 hours too late and shoot your dog for no reason.
It’s so funny when people are like “sure you’re an abolitionist now but wait until you’re the victim of a property crime.” Buddy, the most useful thing the police have ever done for property crime is put the form you need to submit to your insurance online.
Choice and the material circumstances to make choice possible.

It’s both satisfying and infuriating to have the responses either raging (eg from Canadian) with us and the commiseration from other US ppl swimming in the same fetid insurance denying waters
every once in a while a nice author friend from Canada reaches a point where they have to ask their nice author friend in the US why their readers are trying to shove dollar bills up their noses, and I have to give them The Most Depressing Talk Ever
I couldn’t help but think of something I tell myself when trying not to impulse shop: “just because I think something is neat doesn’t mean I have to own it” idk if it’s an American or human impulse that makes me want to possess what I enjoy, but it’s especially heartbreaking with pets
Somewhere out there is a cat breeder trying to figure out how to make "Jimothy" cats and we've unfortunately learned from Sphyxes and Munchkin cats that a lot of people would buy them.
I have a yearning to do something a *little* dangerous - but not nuclear life-blowing-up dangerous. Now taking suggestions.
23 karat!? He couldn’t even negotiate for the whole 24 with that amount of money? SAD!
While you were over here trying to figure out how you were going to cover the rent and food—this guy was over there using $5.1 million in taxpayer money YOU paid into the system to cover these statues in 23 karat gold. Yeah, he did that.
When HRC ran, my at the time 6 yo said they didn’t want her to run, they were afraid she’d be assassinated. It’s an even more terrifying time right now to be a femme person with opinions, much less radical ones. The heart breaks and breaks.
I think this is a persuasive essay. And even tho I hope to see somebody as flippin’ awesome as AOC run, the author’s statement that this is like asking them to give their life to the cause is especially true with a woman

THIS IS NOT ME WEIGHING IN ON WILSON V. NOLAN that being said a couple times now I’ve seen it hinted or outright said that it’s ungrateful of her to write a negative review of the movie because it helped her sell books but like: she doesn’t owe him anything. what are we even doing here
*standing up on plane* (masturbating furiously) Hear ye fellow onanists! I celebrate myself, and sing myself, and what I assume you shall assume for every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you. I loaf and invite my soul, I lean and loaf at my ease
*standing up on the plane* ok you Protestant fucks prepare to get scared because I’m about to tell you what’s real. Hail Holy Queen our light our sweetness and our hopes. To Thee to we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to Thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Tu
*standing up, i'm a plane* Megatron has fallen! I, Starscream, am now the leader of the Decepticons!

YES YES YES!!! Every time my kids start saying shit like “college isn’t for everyone” I point out college is a privilege and a luxury and you don’t see rich families sending their kids off into adulthood without it!!
Every commentator saying too many kids go to university has to tell their own kid to not do a degree
