Impersonation scams targeting writers are an epidemic. To defend yourself: check any out-of-the-blue email that purports to be from a real person in publishing or Hollywood against Writer Beware's Impersonation List writerbeware.blog/2024/03/15/t...
The Impersonation List - Writer Beware
The most pernicious scams focused on English-speaking writers these days come from overseas: publishing/marketing/fake literary agency scams from the Philippines, and ghostwriting/publishing/marketing...

I'm not letting AI horseshit maneuver me into a defensive position with my writing. I write like I write. I love emdashes. I keep using emdashes. Whatever we write, AI will take and copy it -- all you can do is keep writing the best shit you can write in the form you want it to take, and fuck it.
Authors and journalists are doing more first-person (hello 2010s blogging) and embracing "mistakes" in writing to prove they're not chatbots. There's even an “anti-Grammarly" app that leaves in typos and signs off "sent from my iPhone" to create more authenticity: www.wired.com/story/more-t...

🚨🚨🚨 Republicans in the Senate have drafted S. 4925, their companion to the House's HR 7616 bill. This nationwide book banning bill shows the GOP's priorities during the quiet summer season. S. 4925 is already in the HELP subcommittee. bookriot.com/senate-bill-...

JKR and her new org apparently helped get the new Amnesty International report on how TERF organizations destroy lives taken down from their site. Well, guess what? The Streisand Effect is real. Here's the entire report in a thread. Read it. Share it.
Amnesty International put out a major report documenting the influence of UK based anti trans gender critical organizations and their funding. Within hours, GC groups threatened defamation lawsuits and Amnesty was forced to pull it down. Proving the point they're anti rights. Anyways, here it is.
Maybe I'm not overthinking, maybe I'm just regular thinking about stuff that’s overhappening
Kids today have lost the fine art of bullshitting a 10 page paper from a single Funk & Wagnalls entry or from reading only the CliffsNotes. 🤣
★ Kara LaReau and illustrator Kelly Murphy’s “heartening” middle grade novel LICORICE is “an appealing tale for animal lovers and mystery readers alike”

Listen, if you don’t know the difference between Democratic socialism and communism, I’m not engaging with you. Crack a book.
It’s HOT! Don’t forget to unplug your local Data center to stay cool.
if I were an elected representative and my constituents were coming up and saying "our daughter can't go to college unless she gets an athletic scholarship" I would be like "this is why we need universal free college" not "we'll pretend to solve this by being cruel to trans people." crazy right
Gluesenkamp Perez: "At town halls, what I saw was the people who were the most upset had spent the last 12 years driving their girls to sports practice & they view their best shot of their student going to college as an athletic scholarship. So when we rush to moralize we miss some of the nuance."
When you get to the airport and realize you left your book in the hotel room 😭😭😭

"Buried in the appendices, the report found fewer than 10 trans youth in the entire country who had detransitioned." Never mind the thousands of kids who have over the years continued into a happy transition. It's these 10 kids that they give all the shits about.
Hilary Cass climbed out from under the bridge she calls home to tell the BBC there's no evidence of any harms to trans young people from puberty blockers. Infuriating! Evan Urquhart has more here: assignedmedia.org/breaking-new...
Just got my paws on a finished copy of LICORICE — Ella, one of my cats, has volunteered to model it for you. MEOW is the perfect time to preorder during the B&N Preorder Promo! www.barnesandnoble.com/w/licorice-k... #kidlit #booksky #parents #teachers #librarians
“We’ll arrest you if you try to remove the scum that’s floated to the top” is remarkably on point
There's this aspect of the mental load we don't talk enough about--having to know where everybody's sh*t is. I think it's a vicious cycle, where mom does most of the tidying up, so she's putting other people's sh*t away, but then when other people need their sh*t, mom has to tell them where it is.

Remember this scene the next time a corporate reporter tries to insist that a rural diner full of white men in their 60s is somehow a more authentically "American" place, somehow more representative of who we are as a nation.

“There may be.” FFS. Forget the flags. I have a literal masters degree in public health, I’m an actual union leader (in my second term as chapter president,) I’m a college professor, and a reproductive health advocate. And people are quibbling over if he abused his exes enough to be disqualifying.
Hayes: Are there texts, photos, floating around that will hurt the campaign in October? Are you worried about that? Platner: I'm not worried about it. There may be things out there but they're from before I was public figure and got into politics. My journey is one of transformation.
LRP i genuinely think the answer to most questions that go like "why aren't more _____ books being made at all/anymore" is almost never "because authors don't want to write them/haven't considered it," it's NEAR universally "because publishers have decided they don't sell well enough" haha
