In late 2023, the Society spent a day with Hertfordshire’s historians. We saw the quality, creativity and distinctiveness of teaching, research and engagement. We were told by a (now departed) senior manager that History was ‘a portfolio the university will guard very carefully’. bit.ly/4hLediN

Well here we go. End of Humanities provision at an institution that championed the value of Humanities even when it was a 1950s Tech College. CP Snow was a fan and wrote in his famous "Two Cultures" (1959) that "the intellectual life of the whole of western society" rested on Science and Humanities.

Today staff in the School of Creative Arts, including the Humanities department, were called to a redundancy consultation meeting. We were informed that 23 posts were to go by August this year, with further redundancies as the Humanities programmes are taught out over 2 years.
