man one of the things I love most in this world is taking some time to go deep on the work of a musician I love today's deep dive is Oscar Peterson, *easily* in my top 3 fav jazz artists I never get tired of hearing him play; any album with him on it is no skips for me
Who will think of the label readers once again?! (I'm saying this dramatically for a funny effect but I'm also kind of actually mad about it.) I'm tired of being required to make everything from scratch because companies keep bastardizing their products. I'm too sick to make my own replacements!
So many food products are geared towards your baby-est consumer who never reads labels and demands everything always taste perfect I miss the very early days of Vega nutrition drinks (like ~2010 ish) because it was super good for nutrition (esp for athletes), and unapologetically tasted like trash
(yes, and) These fucking surveys have *got* to stop separating out "Christian" vs "Catholic" like this Did they mean "Protestant" vs "Catholic"? Or are they actually counting Catholics twice: once as a standalone group, and a second time correctly counted under "Christianity"?
This actually explains something about how people talk about the Jewish community.
for real, this is partly why I'm either going to find my future spouse while I'm still sick, or not at all I want a marriage that can survive the bad stuff. I want a marriage where, when we're unable to do all the "active" stuff we used to, that there is still plenty of fun and love left!
a pal showed me this r/covidlonghaulers post and it broke my heart not only because it’s such a tale as old as time for chronic illness in a lot of ways, but also because i’ve heard more stories like this from consistently cautious people this year than in the past, despite the erosion of the state.
UGH I got a grand jury summons and I would actually be thrilled to do my civic duty (ok I am a curious cat and am very interested why there's a grand jury case happening), but I'm too sick to do so, so I'm gonna have to get an excusal :(

everything I have to say about the Jimothy discourse is probably only fit for fellow disabled people's ears, everyone else would just get pissy at me for what I have to say
Can someone please inform the mayor that negging the city you are mayor of is a terrible fucking look
Portland Mayor Keith Wilson just called a to-be demolished Lloyd Center "30 acres of dirt nobody wants to invest in."
Absolutely infuriating USE YOUR NUMBERS jfc Instead they try to threaten and strong-arm with unspecified supposed horrors (Also the Blazers can't leave right away without major fines, don't forget that!)
Senator Lieber, talking about SB 1501: "We needed to keep what we have." Says the Blazers leaving will have an economic impact, but doesn't articulate what it would be. "It just will."
Question for #MedSky - Why is this article using the term "goopiness" when 'biofilm' already exists? Is this a new/distinct type of goop or was the reporter just unaware?
Oh no no no
"People keep saying we’re living in unprecedented times. Fine. Let’s set some precedents." 🔥🔥🔥 I was like the Vince McMahon meme throughout this extremely well-argued piece
Thank you for laying it out so clearly, @councilortkl.bsky.social. Mayor Wilson and everyone who has been conspiring to give our money away to this man without even a pretense of negotiation should be deeply embarrassed. www.portlandmercury.com/opinion/opin...
@councilortkl.bsky.social took a real risk when she refused to sign onto that February letter. Her convictions — and courage — served to completely transform the political landscape on this issue: where the billionaire held all the power, Portland now holds the power.

"Grid disturbances are routinely corrected by operators and utilities in a matter of milliseconds, Marshall said. But Wednesday's event took about 10 minutes before the grid was fully stabilized, he said." That's a big effing deal. (I briefly worked in power grid research earlier in my career.)
"A massive amount of data center power abruptly disconnected from the largest U.S. electric grid on Wednesday, causing a voltage disturbance that could be felt from Washington, D.C., to Chicago, according to experts and data from grid operator PJM." #EnergySky 🔌💡 www.aol.com/articles/mas...
begging people (and companies) to stop using the word "clean" to describe food in addition to sounding like you're about to start ranting about "muggles" and "half-bloods", which is already disqualifyingly bad, it offers *zero* information to consumers who actually care about what's in their food
is everyone else at "I ran out of floss and was going to have to open a package to get more which made me almost fucking melt the fuck down" level of exasperated and burned out these days or is it just me
I won $45 by beating a guy nicknamed Scar at texas hold em really it was 9 guys and me, $5 buy-in (we were early 20s in the mid-00s and none of us rich) but it came down to an extended battle between me and Scar
Okay, my QUESTION OF THE DAY is… What is your weirdest actual accomplishment? Not the biggest necessarily…but the weirdest?
I mean this *is* the basic problem on City Council right? We have six progressive councilors actually capable of finding creative, scrappy compromises, and six other councilors who represent the half of Portland that's pissed off they finally have to care about literally anyone but themselves.
I walked into these negotiations believing that's what we were trying to do. I leave them believing we have fundamentally different definitions of what compromise means.
They really have no marketing argument for these do they "More and more people use our AI glasses because they’re genuinely helpful in everyday moments like listening to music, getting live translation while traveling, or making a call hands-free." Who travels to foreign countries *every day*?
Today in luxury surveillance.
[Food adulteration] Heads up about a new study showing many packaged products made with 100% avocado oil are...not Someone in the supply/manufacturing chain is subbing in cheaper oils such as soybean oil #NEISvoid #MCAS
That Avocado Oil Chip You’re Eating May Not Be Made With Pure Avocado Oil
UC Davis researchers tested 54 avocado oil chips, mayo and dressings. Nearly 9 in 10 were adulterated with cheaper oils despite label claims.

I don't know what other ill person with an extremely limited diet may benefit from this knowledge, however, let it be known: Double strength tulsi tea + some watermelon LMNT is an exceptionally good stand-in for fruity sweetened iced tea (With no caffeine nor citric acid nor sugar)
It's true I do imbue my blue onto myself I make it bitter
120 million divided by 24 = 5 million for each mayor. Also, come on y’all. You love to complain about how you hate Portland then you’re going to make demands about our tax dollars because the Metro Chamber comes knocking? Thanks for ID-ing where DSA needs to run its next batch of candidates.
In a letter sent Wednesday to Gov. Tina Kotek, Portland Mayor Keith Wilson, and Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson, 24 mayors from cities around the Portland metro urged leaders to do what they can to keep the Trail Blazers from leaving Portland in their arena negotiations.
(Looks like he's not on here a ton but tagging for the next time he might be!) I'm trying to find an old @lethain.com blog post about the importance of: if there's something that's not working well, trying to fix it at a system level instead of just getting an exception for your case and moving on
