INBOX: the police chief of Quakertown, Pa., led a group of plainclothes officers to disrupt a peaceful high school student sidewalk protest yesterday. They threw an underage girl to the ground, choked her, and disconnected all calls to the detention center where she and others are currently held.

I’m working on something for a talk, in the stage where I’m writing lots of notes and trying to organize it. Then I remember my district’s AI policy, that students should be encouraged to use AI for outlining and brainstorming and wince.

please remember that no matter how many “ICE is losing in MN” articles you read today, there is still a very real, urgent, ongoing crisis in Minnesota. people need food and they need rent money. that has not changed.

Police, not ICE, arrested around 100 clergy *yesterday* for participating in peaceful resistance against ICE. If Minnesota has "had it" then MN Democrats should do something about it and quit criminalizing the people willing to put their actual bodies on the line to say they've had it!

I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota has had it. This is sickening. The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.

Once again: Focusing on their lack of training is a mistake. With "better training," their violence would simply cost more, and they would still kill whoever they wanted, but make it look more professional — to make people more comfortable, the way many of you are at ease with local police violence.

Breaking: The Department of Labor sent a letter to the Chicago Teachers Union demanding access to their finances, mirroring a similar inquiry from the House Education Committee, which exclusively cited a conservative think-tank funded by GOP megadonors. bit.ly/4qYgmt0

I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports. And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: “No, I don’t have to show you any documentation.” Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.

A buddy in MN shared a drawing a classmate of his kid made. They've been making thank you notes for parents who have volunteered to carpool them to school so their own parents don't have to risk waiting out by the bus stop.

kid's drawing of a truck thank you for helping my friends come to school

The article appears to be partly paywalled and I would encourage anyone who can afford it to subscribe, Slate's got a hell of a sale going right now and subscriptions are how they can afford to pay freelancers for articles like this one For my fellow brokies, though:

You’ve Heard About Who ICE Is Recruiting. The Truth Is Far Worse. I’m the Proof.

What happens when you do minimal screening before hiring agents, arming them, and sending them into the streets? We're all finding out.
