A short statement following the events in Berlin yesterday.

I agree with Ed Davey's call on the government to refuse to let Nigel Farage resign until the investigation comes to a close. Farage has made this into a farce that spits on the principles of democracy. It's a joke of an election with a joke of a candidate, and I'm not referring to Count Binface.

Abolish the monarchy and force them to pay reparations. Of course, they are happy to platform JK Rowling. The fact they still hold any power is legalised corruption.

As I’ve said before, any serious attempt to ban conversion practices in Britain has to confront the fact that the NHS never stopped doing it. This draft bill not only fails, it explicitly gives “healthcare providers” permission to continue.

It's ill thought out, full of holes, and has the potential to be misused to hurt the very people that it says it's trying to protect. Am I talking about the draft Conversion Practices Bill or the Equality Act? You decide.

We quite rightly welcome the signing of the EDM by Siân, Hannah and Ellie. Fighting for trans rights is what Greens should be doing. It's a long-standing party policy that trans women are women, trans men are men and non-binary people are non-binary.

On one hand, looking through Helen Webberley's social media is funny to see how much cringe my old boss posts. On the other hand, it's depressing how much of a following she still has, looking at her AI riddled service that trans people pay way too much money for.

Here we are: forced detransition of trans youth. They know the harms that this will cause to trans teens and their families, and they just don't care. This country and this government is flagrantly indifferent to the mental and physical wellbeing of transgender youth.

Update: Young people & families today received shocking & transphobic letters from NHS. These letters tell people that endocrine care (blockers / HRT) is being fully withdrawn in 7 weeks time (July 31st). Forced medical detransition. This country is a danger to trans children & young people.

I have written to the Prime Minister and Bridget Phillipson, calling for the cruel and confusing EHRC Code of Practice to be rejected. Legislative action must be taken to create an equalities framework that protects trans people’s safety, dignity and humanity.

I finally have a formal diagnosis of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. I spent five years back and forth with my old GP in Bristol to try to get them to do anything. Moved to Manchester, and my new GP was like this is a clear-cut case, so I'm happy to diagnose you and actually knew a lot about EDS.

The hill I'll die on is saying that Terry Pratchett had more of a queer feminist perspective than any cis male writer has ever had.

Sometimes as an NYT books columnist you find yourself quoted in the Atlantic by Helen Lewis, who believes two odd things: 1. That nobody is reading Pratchett anymore (instead of all the time, as they should), and 2. That Pratchett’s politics are hard to pin down, and Reg Shoe is not a fucking hero.

Why does the legal definition of genocide only apply to ethnic groups? Because governments around the world looked at what the NAZIs did to disabled and queer people, then wished they could do the same. Which is the same with why they don't want they label of genocide to apply to Palestinians. 1/4

A little reminder for Andy Burnham. There's no middle ground between people wanting to exist and people who don't want those people to exist. Ironicly, those positions are a binary. You can't exclude trans people from public life in a fair way. You can't do a genocide on us compassionately.

What's this, Andy Burnham throwing people under the bus as soon as it's politically convenient to do so? If he's already changing his tune now, he'd be a total Starmer clone if he becomes PM. The idea he'd be any different to the rest of the ghouls at the top of the Labour Party was pure cope.

That's your view, is it Andy? Because it's incoherent. There is no way to implement the SC ruling and the new EHRC guidance without further marginalising an already marginalised community because that's what the ruling and guidance are for, to push trans people further out of public life.

To head this off, we were always planning on contesting the election. The perceived delay in announcing a candidate was the local party membership selecting a candidate. Unlike other parties, our local members always choose who they want to represent them. No one is ever gifted a constituency.

I'm not surprised. Women tend to correctly see the issue of climate change as political. Governments aren't insensitivising renewable energy and things like insulation to reduce energy usage. Men tend to see the issue as a technology one. We just haven't built or researched the big machines yet.

I came to Bristol 18 years ago through Parkway and now I'm leaving Bristol through the same train station. So my adventure living in Bristol has come full circle. It isn't good bye, I'll be back to visit not so long in the future. I'm just off to Manchester to have new adventures in the day to day.

The Green Party has had this "generational divide" for at least two decades at this point. There's always been people trying to make us into a single issue party, not the majority of older members, just a very vocal few. They've definitively lost the argument now as we're more popular than ever.

Glad Keir Starmer's Labour government is prioritising stopping musicians from performing. Wouldn't want them distracted from their complicity in Israel's genocide of the Palestinian people and an illegal war on Iran. What a pathetic excuse of a Prime Minister.

Proud of my Green Party colleagues in Wales for the health section of our manifesto for the Senedd elections. Making it clear that health outcomes should take centre stage in the NHS. And of course, the BBC is leading with making out that medication for young trans people is controversial.

I always find it much easier to talk about being trans than ace. Have to educate even progressive people on the basics of what asexuality is. So I really feel what Charlie is saying here.

Too many people lack awareness of asexuality and the experiences of asexual people, that can make it hard to be out. "Even though I'm out as trans, being asexual often feels more difficult to talk about. Not many people know about asexuality if they aren't active in LGBTQ+ spaces." Charlie

It's a week to go until I'm moving to Manchester. First time I've moved cities since I moved to Bristol for uni 18 years ago. Already quite physically and emotionally drained from packing and everything else, but we continue.

Horrific, but typical. Labour stopped Rosa's support workers from assisting her in council meetings, then as she was unable to attend, removed her from her seat. They were fine with her support until she did inconvenient things like speak against disability benefits cuts and genocide in Palestine.
