New paper from the lab in honor of Warren Bickel's reinforcer pathology model and taking it one step further to consider the broader ecological contexts in which access to alcohol-free reinforcement might prevent return to heavy drinking following treatment. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...
Engagement in alcohol‐free activities, community‐level economic disadvantage, and heavy drinking following alcohol treatment
The reinforcer pathology model proposed by Warren Bickel and colleagues focuses on within-individual motivational processes involving overvaluation of smaller immediate rewards relative to larger del...

Reduced drug use without full abstinence should count as success, not failure. This topic is very important to me, harm reduction is ALWAYS a success.

We work in sexually dimorphic brain regions and signaling elements that have sex differences. It is EQUALLY interesting when we find sex differences as when we do not, but if we don't look, we don't know. (1)
How can that be? SABV has been the requirement since....ummm.....
Every time I have a conversation with a graduate student or a colleague about the need to dive into a methods issue, a few days later I see that @dmcneish.bsky.social has come out with a banger of a paper that perfectly covers the topic and provides tools to implement. Bravo! And, thank you!
New paper— everyone is collecting intensive longitudinal data but recent review studies report that less than half of studies consider measurement/psychometrics. The paper covers a few foundational psychometric methods for ILD and provides a shiny app to apply them link.springer.com/article/10.3...

A primer on intensive longitudinal psychometrics - Behavior Research Methods
Many intensive longitudinal studies are interested in topics that are not always amenable to direct physical measurement and instead are often theorized as latent constructs (e.g., affect, emotion, mo...

Down 70% (!!!) from the before times. We've plateaued and it's only April. So, so many labs will close this year.
The number of NIH competitive awards is down 50% from 2025, and down ~70% from prior years. Even if they catch up by the end of the year, only wealthy institutions can bridge these huge funding gaps. They're killing science-and violating the constitution-by weaponizing the bureaucracy

Through March 31, the number of grants awarded by the National Institutes of Health is down by more than half compared with the same period last year, a Post analysis found. There are also fewer grants focused on women’s health, cancer and mental health, the analysis found. https://wapo.st/48dWJWX
For all those still feeling the moon joy—Artemis II was brought to you by public schools and publicly funded science. Copy that! 👩🚀🚀💕 *All four astronauts went to public schools!
Huge congrats to ABQ Lab and @casaa.bsky.social NIAAA F31 fellow @hannahcarlon.bsky.social who successfully defended her PhD dissertation today examining positive social effects in alcohol and opioid recovery! She's a star!

Just because a President announces he’s agreed to a two week ceasefire moments before he threatened to commit war crimes, does not mean he is suddenly fit to serve. #25thAmendment
Not MAGA, not Trumpers. This is Republicans. Yes. Your neighbor. Your relative. Those Republicans. The selfish hate party owns this down to their shoelaces.

Please do not boycott reviewing for the NIH. Help the SROs and other staff who are doing their part to get grants funded. And help the applicants - your peers and most importantly, young investigators - who deserve experienced reviewers.
Cancelling continuous submission for reviewers seems like just about the worst possible idea. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide... Unless of course breaking the system is the point. Many PIs are already quietly boycotting review. Some not wanting to lend credibility to an increasingly corrupted NIH…
As somebody who had to park very far away from the rally point in a very small rural area. I can confirm rural folks came out for this protest!
"The third No Kings protests were an unmistakable display of political force..." "Two-thirds of participants live in suburban, small town or rural areas, a 40% increase over last time in protesters from outside big cities..." www.usatoday.com/story/news/p...

Red flare for Trump: 'No Kings' rallies a show of political force
With a Revolutionary-era slogan, the protests had an historic geographical reach across the country. What does that mean for November?

THANK YOU, Albuquerque, NM for having me at your #NoKings rally today. So much energy and so many people saying loud and clear: NO KINGS 🚫👑
"After No Kings, Indivisible, one of the lead organizers of the "No Kings" protest, is pivoting to building support for...May Day Strong. The May Day Strong coalition is calling for "No Work, No School, No Shopping" on May 1st." reporting by @mikeelk.bsky.social paydayreport.com/no-kings-org...

It’s not just millions of Americans turning out in droves to call out Donald Trump. Protesters worldwide have taken to the streets for ‘No Kings’ rallies. In Italy, France, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, and Australia, crowds marched with signs condemning Trump and his war with Iran.
Tijeras NM is a sweet little mountain town of 456 people and it seemed 150-200 folks showed up to say #nokings! Lots of joy and vehicles going by cheering us on.
