My PhD supervisee Raimond Merila has published and article on game inspired food cultures. A very cool addition to fandom and participatory cultures work, I think. Check it out if games, fandom, food or Zelda are your thing. If you don't have access, lmk.

Listening to "IGF DC Webinar: To Ban or Not to Ban – How to Protect Children Online?" What a treat to have both @sonialivingstone.bsky.social and Amanda Third speaking, such a wealth and depth of experience and not a clutched pearl in sight ❤️ 🤓
Yesterday I presented my research on shadowbanning, de-platforming and platform appeals to Samantha Niblett MP, together with a group of badass sex educators, activists and brands.
My sister @rachelcleves.bsky.social has been dealing with every scholar's nightmare—a popular author taking sole credit for her work, flooding the zone with a derivative book using the same title and cover art as the original, without attribution. Buy Rachel's book, not the knockoff.
An open letter, to readers, about Charity and Sylvia. I am very pained to feel the need to write this. #queerhistory #pride
Am I really the only one who absolutely needs for text to be justified (in terms of alignment) in any writing document I work on? Surely not? Surely there are others who are physically pained by the jagged edges of left aligned text?

two days to book submission. one of the neighbors religiously practicing flute. excellent.
Went on a hike, saw some birds. "The herons are aura farming," said son. Was impressed by both – bird species knowledge and the use of 'aura farming' as a legitimate zoological term.
A bunch of gay bars in San Francisco just started using facial recongition surveillance on customers. Madison Square Garden was just caught keeping "dossiers" on facial recognition activists ... including me Now is a great time to ask your fave artists to sign this banfacialrecognition.com/venues
Ban Facial Recognition at Live Events
Artists and venues take the pledge: no facial recognition at shows.

I really envy my son's ability to say "no thanks," in a sincere, polite, unbothered way to questions that are not intended to be questions, but he takes them as such, because they end with a question mark.

What I found interesting in Estonian research on this (altho w teens) was when kids said they feel safer knowing their parents know where they are. Also when parents said it avoids conflicts bc they don't have to call to check where their teens are in ways that would make them seem uncool to peers
The nervous generation... No, I am not talking about the kids, but the parents. "Most parents track their 18-25-year-old kids on their smartphones. Is that healthy?" www.npr.org/2026/06/15/n...
saw Kings of Leon yesterday. I used to really like them before they married supermodels and started making moody-dad rock. The venue was awful tho & I felt bummed for them that they didn't get to do our Song Festival Grounds. But it was still kind of cool to see some of those songs performed live
ah, the season of the most boring sportsball is upon us. I know there are many diehard fans, but how can you do it? all they do is run, sometimes fall funnily, and very rarely score. The soundscape is psychosis inducing. Tennis is the only ballgame that has a reasonable run to score ratio

This might be one of the most insane scandals in game history When Pokemon Go players scan PokeStops, theyve been unknowingly building a detailed visual model of the world which is being sold to a military contractor to build a no-GPS positioning for the new generation of unmanned killing machines
i'm gonna try, once again, to like bsky. if you've figured it out, share tips pls? i used to like twitter. i will forever miss tumblr. i find linkedin mindnumbingly boring, i have lovely colleagues on FB, and love what they post, but it also hosts a debilitating amount of hate by my compatriots

some exciting news: announcing CREATOR & INFLUENCER STUDIES, the first open-access peer reviewed journal dedicated to creator and influencer culture research. I'm honoured to be named as one of the journal's inaugural associate editors. submissions open Feb 12.
