Ugh @microsoft.com really do go out of their way to make Windows 11 unusable don't they? Open With... selected Notepad... "sorry, you can't do that, it isn't associated with the file type". Maybe it, but that's what I, the user and owner of file and system want to open it with. Microslop indeed.

Well this could be fun. A friend gave me her grandad's old Zenit EM camera. Today I picked up a roll of XP2 and HP5. Not so much as loaded a film in over 20 years (and that was probably APS), never mind used such a manual camera. Very much a dSLR person. So this could be fun (or just expensive)

One thing I've noticed since Claude Opus 4.6 released is that Claude Code is noticeably worse at finding things it has already done. It was adamant, right up until the point I told it where to find the code, that something did not exist, so there was no pattern to follow.

It's only taken 25 years of patient waiting to finally get hold of it. But today we did, although it cost us a bit more than the Nominet registration fee. It was first registered in 1996!

Image shows a screenshot of WHOIS output for the domain kda.co.uk showing that it is now with the Registrar KDA Web Services Ltd.

@microsoft.com giving the middle finger again to hosting providers I see: "Furthermore, Web edition has traditionally served small to medium web applications where cost efficiency is critical. Today, Azure SQL Database delivers highly cost-effective, scalable solutions for modern web workloads."

Ok. They’ve pissed me off. I’m back to tell you 3 things about ID cards: 1. Migrants ALREADY HAVE biometric ID cards & govts have been trying to digitise them for years w repeated fuckups & failures causing complete chaos - they don’t work, you do not want that system for you.

This is what the UK considers edtech governance: the regulator waving away concerns about biometrics being used to pay for food. Aside the digital rights issue, it is infuriating that schools are expected to understand the privacy and security risks. Risks that are so great no workplace does this

Ugh, gone out for breakfast, two people on next table spouting trump rhetoric about renewables, "well wind just doesn't work does it?" Yeah mate, doing absolutely nothing nothing at all for us.

Not today Apple. Not today.... or tomorrow, or any other day generally any more. Guess the behaviour analysis needs some time to catch up to the change of car.

ASVs really need some self awareness "we need to scan this domain, please whitelist 40960 IP addresses". No. Stop. You're now a weak link in the security chain for a whole server. Have some self awareness.

Okay world, do your thing. Need suggestions for basic uptime monitoring with easy phone call based alerting. Need to leave StatusCake. Way too much of their infra is DigitalOcean, so we're basically testing DO for issues not us.

“Try to learn something about everything and everything about something.” Somewhat of a motto for us! Thomas Huxley was known as Darwin's Bulldog for his support of Darwin's evolutionary theories, his grandson was Aldous Huxley author of Brave New World. Buy the T-Shirt now at RottenPoetry.net

Why on earth have Amazon taken a massive step back in the pin entry UI on FireTV? It now takes several more button presses and worse than that, your kids can see the pin! At worst before they knew which half of the range each digit fell in, now they know every digit!

Thousands of acres of protected Amazon rainforest is being cut down to build a four lane highway to transport people to the COP30 climate summit in Brazil. Yes, this is a real story. (🎥 BBC) 1/2

The Pentagon has marked 26,000 photos for deletion to purge evidence of diversity. The photos include the 1st black pilots in WWII, the 1st women to pass infantry training & the plane that dropped the Hiroshima bomb because it’s called the “Enola GAY”. This is real. We’re living in a horror story.
