That's what taxes are, man. That's the definition of taxes. "You are subsidizing things you might never use" man shut the fuck up. My taxes currently subsidize like oil company exec private jets, you think I'm upset at low-income people eating inexpensive bananas?

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

If every life has equal value, every loss deserves equal mourning. My latest column examines why Seattle rallies after some tragedies but too often looks away when violence strikes Rainier Beach, Hillman City, Brighton, and other South Seattle neighborhoods.

COLUMN | Gun Violence Didn't Move to Seattle Center. Our Attention Did.

Seattle rallied when gun violence struck its "civic living room." Marcus Harrison Green asks why South End deaths have so rarely received the same urgency.

Hearing on good authority that Police Chief Shon Barnes has just been fired. He just left the mayor's office this evening after being inside for quite a while. Barnes is currently calling around the police department to tell his captains. Still waiting on confirmation from mayor's office and SPD.

This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.

Mainstream Respectable opinion is that people joking about a bad person's death represents a culture of cruelty, but really it represents a culture of impunity. It's a coping mechanism for watching someone do evil their whole life and never seeing consequences

i've been so severely depressed i was at risk of suicide and under safety plans several separate times. i still had to run meetings and send emails and do spreadsheets every day or i'd have been homeless. must have been nice tom! glad you're back to take away our care. i fucking hate these people

Rep. Tom Kean finally speaks after months away from Congress for a previously unexplained absence: "I was given the diagnosis of depression ... the doctors recommended I remain in the hospital to address my illness"

For months we shadowed families who were devastated when an aging and supposedly temporary levee system broke open and poured the White River into their homes. In five months, there's been effectively no aid. They feel trapped, abandoned. Please read and share: www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...

A family’s baby was battling a rare heart condition. Then the levee broke

Washington families are reckoning with the lasting devastation of the floods. Help has come mostly from luck and charity, though some are suing to find answers.

contacted all my reps again today and @murray.senate.gov is so far the sole reply. her office sent me long bullshit that only succeeded in reinvigorating my belief in term limits. thanks for telling me you’ll do nothing while reminding me you’ve been in congress since I was ELEVEN????

As one of the few members of Congress who proudly voted against President Bush's disastrous war in Iraq, I will always speak up on behalf of my constituents in Washington state who do not want to be dragged into another forever war.

If you, like me, are trying not to panic about the threat of nuclear war or lose your mind bc everyone’s just going about their day and no one in power is doing a single fucking thing to stop this, then I would like to share this picture of Frida with a spider plant flower with you

A white fluffy dog looks extremely cute and stares off wistfully while sitting right behind a green vine with a white flower on it
