Those trendy little countertop hydroponic machines are GREAT for this, since lettuce tends to bolt and get bitter if it's too hot outside. Buy one of those or find one at your local thrift store, get some compatible pods and lettuce seeds and you're in business. Use cool/cold water for happy greens.

A couple years back when they started cutting all the food oversight and safety reporting, the one thing I decided I must absolutely try to grow myself was lettuce And I highly recommend this. It’s not hard to grow. Does well in container gardens. You just have to be vigilant about watering it.
