Oh also my husband got SHINGLES??? The urgent care caught it miraculously early 🙏, very thankful my kiddos have the chickenpox vac
Kells makes cat games

I like cute stuff, couldn't you guess? 2D and 3D artist, neurodivergent. Game dev of Calico, the magical girl cat cafe game! Mom of 2 humans, 2 cats, 5 chickens~
Been community-maxxing and actually using all the local resources, went bowling, ice skating, volunteered for arts center this month, did library reading list, gymnastics and dance. Related: it's too hot outside and my meds make me 500,000 degrees
I am graying as early as my dad did lmao. I’m into it
In a stunning turn of events, my brain has decided my next hyper-fixation is… reading??? In just a few weeks I’ve read The Bluest Eye, Sula, and now The Last Unicorn
I think my current coping methos has been to try to become extremely local and trying to amass as many new skills as possible. The joy I'm having in life has come from getting involved in community stuff locally. Started using the library and actually reading, considering some more bartering
Idk man, I can’t figure out what angle to even discuss what’s happening in the industry (or all the industries!) bc fundamentally none of the choices have anything to do with an actual product or market anymore. We are not the customer, investment is the customer. I don’t know where the endpoint is
PSA that you don't need to watch the latest netflix doc, it won't improve your life and it's really really tragic. Read the summary online if needed. My new thing has been if I get curious about a true crime doc, read the 15 min summary/discussions online instead of watching the long doc or series.
This is becoming a growing risk for investments and grants too: why would I risk giving money to an indie if you're using genAI to such an extent it'll come out and ruin your release? Every person I've asked this question reacts shocked; they didn't realize yet how damaging it is to your marketing
Someone actually crunched the numbers, and using GenAI can decrease reviews for indie game on Steam (a useful proxy stat for sales) by as much as *58%* 🤖
Our susu, or group fund has gotten us through a hundred small emergencies. We’ve been able to successfully maintain it for our collective survival for a while now, and I’m proud of that. Please help us keep it going! That cash will make come in clutch for one, some or all of us one day
Anyway. Happy Juneteenth! Me and my friends illustrate and write and we wanna make cool shit together, but that requires money for us to live. You can support Black artists today by contributing to our group's collective survival fund here: www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/...
eek also sorry about the tone shift. Games as an art is profoundly energizing, but games as an economic structure is endlessly distressing
I genuinely, genuinely am having the most wonderful conversation about specific game design implementations in socially conscious cozy games in the comments of my itch manifesto entry. Meeting someone new who matches your vibe so thoroughly to make you grow is the best feeling on earth
Someone engaged with me deeply about this in the comments and I love it so much, like I wanna have more discussions that actually go back and forth and we get to actually start agreeing or disagreeing on specifics.

Manifesto Jam 2026 - In Defense of Cozy Games by Kells
For Manifesto Jam 2026! Why we shouldn't dismiss an entire (cozy) genre

Been trying to learn watercolor and gouache recently, and getting hung up on my inability to undo. I am a master overworker 😭😭😭
Kora is old enough that I wanted to start explaining why I wasn't letting her watch certain (ai) videos when we have supervised time watching youtube together. She's gotten super into asking how I spot it, why it's bad etc. And now she keeps going up to people and telling them that ai art is stolen😂
I read a flat critique of cozy games today that I don't think I want to platform, but then I saw this critique, which I found really good! I think my general thought is that the best critique of the genre is going to come from fans of it. People who want it to improve rather than flattening it
Great post by @lmichet.bsky.social on the purpose of genre and "wholesome" games as a marketing term blog.lauramichet.com/nurturing-ga...
I started using LinkedIn. I can't decide if my user experience is good or bad. I guess I'll say, it does not make me as mad and heated as the lows of other social media, but also there is no incentive to scroll, as basically none of the content is interesting or relevant to me currently
I just figured out how I would have fixed the end of Twilight. Have Jacob imprint on some other woman near the end, turns out their baby and nessie or whatever are the soulmates and is why he felt drawn to bella and protective of her. Boom, you got a spin off warewolfxvampire story and not creepy
I'm obsessed with Pokopia as a gamer obviously, but also I'm just incredibly jealous/ impressed that they actually made cozy sim in the alps Disco Elysium and it totally works
wtf I drew a guy for work that looks just like Pombon a year ago am i psychic (no I'm not, that's just a pomeranian's peak form)
I know I'm asking a lot, but I wish these article headlines were more clear about "But they have not shown any evidence at all that what they claim would be remotely possible"
Unity says its AI tech will soon be able to 'prompt full casual games into existence'
Made tiny furniture out of clay during the super bowl
I figured it out, the Super Bowl commercials this year remind me of the expo hall at GDC. Same vibe of 10 different wildly over funded companies chasing one tech fad. We’re just missing a blockchain and NFT ad
If I was famous id be in the Pokemon superbowl halftime commercial that isn’t specifically advertising anything just the concept of pokemon
There’s a really weird amount of ai de-aging ads in the Super Bowl, it’s legit like 40% of them?
36% is a hilariously low number considering how many companies are forcing use, and how many (basically all) mainstream dev tools and programs are inserting passive gen ai into their products anywhere possible. Good job team lets get those numbers lower next time tho ✌️
GDC survey reveals layoffs up 6%, 36% of industry using AI, and overwhelming support for unionisation in the US. https://bit.ly/4rmq1K6
So it's eerie that every major political event is happening in places I live or have lived, but the nice part is seeing all the random center right people I went to school with swing wildly left over time and all be out protecting their communities, and that's really wonderful
I very genuinely don't know how anyone keeping up on GenAI stuff could still deny the bubble (unless they are lying in order to protect investment) ((that's the answer)) But seriously
