All the plastic humanity has ever produced is ~10 billion tonnes. Humans emitted ~10 billion tonnes of CO₂ into the atmosphere in the first three months of 2026. When we appreciate orders of magnitude, we see how intractable the CO₂ problem becomes once we dump it into the atmosphere.
I wonder if we made all single use plastic out of algae-derived petroleum, it would constitute CDR. You pull CO2 from the atmosphere, concentrate it to rapidly produce the algae and thereby capturing it, extract the oil, produce plastic, use it once, then toss it in a landfill...
