Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, who also played a big role in recruiting Mills and Stevens, refused to endorse the Democratic nominee for mayor of New York last year. They set the "Dem pols can refuse to endorse Democratic nominees who are insufficiently centrist/pro-Israel" precedent.

Janet Mills and Haley Stevens were two of the big candidates that Chuck Schumer recruited to run in this cycle. Mills refused to endorse Troy Jackson until a couple of days ago when she tepidly said she voted for him, and now Haley Stevens is endorsing the Republican nominee.

"Mutation: it is the key to our evolution. It has enabled us to evolve from a single-celled organism into the dominant species on the planet. This process is slow, and normally taking thousands and thousands of years. But every few hundred millennia, evolution leaps forward."

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

"Democrats traded their younger donors for squeezed seniors," showing the share of the party’s small-dollar donations (under $200) from 2012 to 2026. The subtitle reads: "In 2026, about 175,000 squeezed seniors — donors 65 and older charged 50 or more times in a cycle — supplied 51% of those donations. Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z, roughly 63% of registered Democrats, supplied 15%."
Two lines track donation shares from 2012 to 2026:
"Squeezed seniors" (orange line) starts around 9% in 2012, rises to 30% in 2018 and 2020, then jumps sharply to 45% in 2022, 47% in 2024, and 51% in 2026.
"Gen X, Millennials & Gen Z" (green line) starts around 17% in 2012, peaks around 33% in 2020, and then drops sharply to 18% in 2022, 19% in 2024, and 15% in 2026.
A vertical dashed line at April 2021 is labeled: "The Supreme Court (Facebook v. Duguid) clears the way for mass fundraising texts, piled on top of the email spam already flooding inboxes."
Footnote: "Shares are by number of donations. By dollars, squeezed seniors gave 39% of small-dollar money in 2026 and Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z gave 18%. Squeezed seniors are donors 65 and older charged 50 or more times in an election cycle. 2026 is mid-cycle.

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

Where your $100 donation actually goes
Of every $100 raised by a Democratic fundraising text, $73 goes to consultants and vendors. Only $13 reaches voters as advertising — the most expensive dollar to raise in American politics.

Cannot bring myself to sit in a theater for 3 hours to watch a documentary about a comedian I have no interest in and a woman I didn't know existed until a few months ago but I'm (sincerely) glad y'all are having fun with this one 🙏

‘You Can See Everything’ beat ‘Melania’ to become the highest-opening non-musical documentary in 10 years. It came in at number 2 at the box office, behind ‘Street Fighter’ but well above ‘Whalefall.’

Obviously hate to hear that Matt Reeves is dealing with a personal matter, most important in all this I hope he's okay, and secondly wish he could finish the film he started. Being a dumb nerd for a second: holy shit, I love Steven Soderbergh tho? It's like a reverse monkey paw?!

Matt Reeves will not return to the set of 'The Batman Part II' as he continues to deal with a sensitive family matter. Instead, Steven Soderbergh will be brought in to help complete principal photography, working with Reeves from a distance for the final weeks of production. bit.ly/47Y8lwu

Syracuse is tearing down the I-81 viaduct that split its city for decades and replacing it with a street grid that reconnects the neighborhoods the highway cut apart. If Syracuse can rethink its highways, so can NYC.

"You're a NIMBY about AI data centers!" Actually I'm a NOMP (Not On My Planet) about privately-owned fixed-location infrastructure externalizing the cost of burning hydrocarbons for energy. If they had to pay what this really costs society in health and climate harms, they wouldn't do it.

My god. A Virginia data center ran backup diesel generators full blast for 24 hours, creating a giant cloud of toxic smoke that choked its human neighbors. The government claimed there was nothing they could do.

Portland tore out Harbor Drive in 1974 and built Tom McCall Waterfront Park in its place. Fifty years later, nobody's asking for the highway back. The BQE doesn't have to be permanent either.

The MTA is beginning the environmental impact process for the 125 St Subway. Right now the project is focused tunnels, with station and other infrastructure to come later. Deep tunnels, however, would lock in the project's main downsides: depth and cost. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Seeing lots of people go well Mamdani can't do anything about the NYPD because they won't obey him and you do see how this makes your entire political project a joke right? Like if that's true then you just spent all of your time electing a hostage Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

The West Side Highway. The Embarcadero Freeway. The Rochester Loop. New York and other cities have removed urban highways and transformed car-dominated spaces into thriving parks, waterfronts, and neighborhoods. There’s no reason the BQE can’t be the same.

I said it last month and I'll reiterate: If Mamdani's BQE rebuild (expansion?) is pushed through on top of his killing off Queenslink it'll make him the worst mayor on transit in my lifetime, with zero hyperbole. What the fuck is his team thinking right now??

Do you know that Democratic politicians in the State of New York could make life very very uncomfortable for James Dolan by actually using the levers of controls they have over MSG's tax status and future? And yet! bsky.app/profile/noah...
