My first parenting webinar, entitled "Five descalation strategies not to try when your middle child enters the kitchen weilding a mini baseball bat to protest bed time," will be out next week. Stay tuned.

One of the benefits of writing a paper with only senior co-authors is that I do not have to avoid the satisfaction of informing this reviewer that this is not what the E stands for in EMNLP

This entire grift relies on convincing people that they don't know how to do the things they have always known how to do, and ironically, if it works, we will, in a very short amount of time, forget how to do all the things we have always known how to do.

every now and then I stumble on a place like r/slowcooking where people just all out stan each others slow cooker recipes and it temporarily restores my faith in humanity and the internet

the key to good writing: 1. Decide 1-3 days before the deadline to rewrite the intro 2. End up drafting the leading phrase "At it's core, human communication is about..." 3. Question life choices

What are your favorite recent papers on using LMs for annotation (especially in a loop with human annotators), synthetic data for task-specific prediction, active learning, and similar? Looking for practical methods for settings where human annotations are costly. A few examples in thread ↴
