First peony of the season. These bushes have been with us now since before the kiddo was born - simple white with pink tinges in the center. I love the big showy things. If only the blooms lasted longer! They are always a sign that summer is just around the corner.

An update: Northwestern University has still not received any funds from NIH since March 26, 2025. We still have not received written communication stating that the funds are frozen, the reason why, or what can be done to restore it.

A very smart colleague just pointed out the grim truth that the U.S. leaving the WHO may ultimately be a win for the rest of the world. Why? Because without a vote, “the US can't block WHO actions like vaccine programs, disease surveillance, contraception, etc”. Man, that is daaaark, but accurate.
