I have not felt this level of... hatred towards my gender identity in a long time. I think I need a hug.

Other things you can do as a cis ally: -use "prefer not to say" when orgs/employers want to collect your demographic data. -nab some trans flag merch - pins, patches, etc. Flood the market with false positives -ask orgs that ARE enforcing this, HOW they are doing so. Make it awkward af
EHRC Code of Practice comes into effect today so remember to be an absolute pain in the arse to any service provider who is trying to actively enforce it.
Academics and scoleres are not gate-keeperes. Thei will talke to you about their topiques. For dayes. Thei will sende lynkes. Thei will order bookes. Thys ys why thei lyve. Thei are the route bitwene past knowledge and future knowledge.

Toward a theory of trauma-informed pedagogy in higher education
In response to the prevalence of trauma exposure in college-going cohorts, scholars have adapted trauma-informed care’s core values (safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment)...

Started writing a thing on how advent of code puzzles could be reimagined as group-learning activities for the teaching and learning of DSA. And then somehow, accidentally crystallised my entire teaching philosophy... Well they do say writing is thinking.
Four baselines for academic conference attendance: 1) keep to your allocated speaking time. 2) everyone is clever; stand out by being warm & kind. 3) be interested in everyone equally - from postgrad to Prof to conference administrator to catering & hotel staff. 4) in Q&A, ask an actual question.
@ewcss.info Dr Guest's published another absolute banger. I think you'll like it - apropos the content of the talk that should have been, but was not.
If useful, here's my attempt to process my feelings about how I feel sadly kinda — or rather very — sick from all this AI fascist nonsense as an academic. 😶🌫️ I'd be pleased if even one person finds something useful because there's something to be said for processing this all together, so, um, enjoy?
I've completed "I Was Told There Would Be No Math" - Day 2 - Advent of Code 2015 #AdventOfCode adventofcode.com/2015/day/2 Well - this one was embarrassingly hard and apparently I've purged an awful lot of basic GCSE maths. Or it was a serious case of RTFQ-itis.

#ChemChat Tag yourselves. (Universal indicator is what got me at about 11... it pretty.)
Hah yes. We got to do some of that as a proper experiment with flame colours and that. I have always said chemists come in some combo of 4 flavours: 1) Pyromaniacs. 2) Pretty colours/crystals. 3) Interesting pharmaceuticals. 4) Mathmo weirds. I remember uni chem tutors sharing their youth tales.
Todays plan: Try and enjoy the fact it's not hotter than Hell today. Still unpleasantly humid though. Do the questionnaire for @cerasellachis.bsky.social Email @k2mey.eurosky.social Finally sit still long enough to watch @ewcss.info conference talk recording. I might need to knit through it.

One day, I'll finally realise that actually drawing out my codebase might be useful. Today is not that day. She works - mostly. Just the codebase is littered with TODOs that basically just add glitter and sparkles at this point.
I definitely have a clever pocket pal who knows the difference between the two??
In academia, what's the difference between a " presentation" and a "lecture" pls?
aaaaaah, why are my ideas always about 6 times bigger than my brain can manage?
@niekbuurmah2o.bsky.social apropos of what I said on LI yesterday.
If this had been policy in the 70s (as it partly was), towns would have produced lots of mining engineers & metallurgists just before pits & steelworks closed. As the yanks say, you should skate to where the puck's going, not to where it is. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
So apparently my other laptop was doing me a public service by going "nah. We simply shall not allow you to install Omarchy".
Just in case you still use any Basecamp products, DHH is crashing out about his AI product gently pointing out that it’s bad for him to have extermination fantasies about the Roma people.
Printers are finicky because they are portals between a digital world and a physical world which defies all of God's will and should never have been built should never have been built so yet require constant and consistent sacrifice to satisfy the weak bonds that tether the two planes.
Ok, I might actually be more upset about this than Bill Oddie. I... absolutely should not have been watching live autopsies at 14 tbqh. Very large part of why 14 year old me wanted to be a Dr (not this kind of Dr), and specifically a (forensic) pathologist.
Er war vor allem durch die Ausstellung »Körperwelten« bekannt geworden: Gunther von Hagens ist tot. Er wurde 81 Jahre alt.
Being queer is fucked up cos when a terrorism is done unto us there is a brief moment where we are unsure which of the many groups that might target us, has targeted us - despite it largely being the same motive for each group, and that motive being "the ick"

And if you are trans? Keep being a hot ass bitch, piss where you like, and try not to get into any fights.
If you're a cis person and you want to help, here's my advice: 1. Write to your MP and express your concerns about the EHRCs code of practice. Importantly, do your best to write your letter/email personally. MPs received many form letters, and personal ones are more likely to be noticed.
Monotropic floating brain can only pick one thing for survival. It chooses “be good at job” instead of “be good at eating meals.” Why measure how well I’m functioning at a basic human level when it’s so much easier to see me for my production value? 🤑 I’m working, so I’m fine!
# set text(font: "New Computer Modern") might actually be my favourite command in Typst. Output looks like LaTeX; syntax doesn't make me cry.
I would expect nothing less from Glasgow, than to theme the Duke for this.
☠️ Part of my writing was shown to another PhD student in the group to give them an idea of the style they needed for the thesis. This advice was then appended with "but maybe not so wordy though" - or words to that effect.
Kit McGodden, 25, wrote an 80,000 word introduction, at which point they realised that they had accidentally written a whole thesis as the prelude to their thesis.
It's Nonbinary Awareness Day and what this nonbinary person would like is for cis people to stop treating nonbinary like a third gender. We are not the halfway point between man and woman. We do not owe anyone androgyny.
Happy International Non-Binary People's Day! As hard as they try, we will not be erased.
