Rep. Kelly Cassidy
@kmcchicago.bsky.social
Only openly gay member of the IL House, mom of 3 adult sons, a bunch of cats, and a gigantic dog. Abortion defender for every gender.
Today, the Legislative Ethics Commission published its findings in the matter of former Rep. Harry Benton. My statement on that case and the questions about the Speaker’s handling of the victims’ stories.
CHICAGO, Ill. – Rep. Kelly Cassidy issued the following statement in response to the release of the Legislative Inspector General’s report.
This is beyond disgusting. And they apparently also took a woman and her child earlier. Allowing this activity at our courthouses makes us all less safe - is a domestic violence survivor safe going to court?!
Video shared to social media by rapid response shows ICE agents abducting a man this A.M. from inside the Bridgeview Courthouse. Outside, Cook County Sheriff’s deputy Gigliotti #19013 daps it up with one of the agents. Asked about IL law preventing arrests at courthouses, deputy Glover shrugs.
1/ ICE used facial recognition on a woman during an immigration raid & misidentified her. Twice. Then called the result "definitive." That app is now deployed in cities across US, bought without a public vote, governed by no one. This is the pattern. 🧵 #DV1 #ProudBlue #Voices4Victory #USDemocracy
Capturing the vibe of the Capitol after an all nighter ain’t easy, but this comes pretty dang close. Spotted cruising Capitol Av as I was leaving after loading out.
One of my greatest disappointments of the just ended session was our complete inaction on these leeches. We not only didn’t advance legislation to regulate them & stop them from pushing skyrocketing energy costs onto consumers, we also allowed them to continue to avoid paying their share of taxes.
Indiana told the public it gave less than $1 million in data center subsidies in 2025. The real number? $655 million. And $561 million of that went to a single company: Amazon. While Hoosiers pay sales tax on groceries, Amazon paid nothing. This isn’t economic development. It’s a heist.
Over the last hour, our office has gotten more than 100 emails urging support for a bill to allow @waymo.bsky.social to operate in IL. The sending pattern (dumps of 40-50 at a time) suggests that these are bot generated and 99% of them say they’re from an address outside the district. 1/2
Excited to live in a country where you can mail someone a handgun but not an abortion pill
The U.S. Postal Service is considering allowing people to ship handguns through the mail for the first time in nearly 100 years
Just remember, they are trying to ban gender affirming care supposedly in the name of protecting minors from harm

Kelly is one of the strongest voices for progressive change in Illinois. It means a great deal to earn her endorsement as a friend and a fellow fighter for fairness and meaningful property tax reform that delivers relief to homeowners and seniors. Thanks, @kmcchicago.bsky.social!
Epstein survivors released an incredible ad during the Super Bowl.
We were working from home when the bell rang. I expected to see a delivery driver running back to their truck. Instead it was a @wbez.org reporter from Curious City asking if I’d ever wondered about our street name. Totally nerding out to be in this story with a fave constituent @rogersparkman
Why is Ashland Avenue sometimes a boulevard?
One continuous road can have different names or suffixes. Sometimes it’s an error, and other times, it’s history.

Last week, I was honored to visit Belfast to learn first hand what can be accomplished by addressing youth crime through a child first lens. I’m excited to share what I’ve learned with colleagues on the Restorative Justice Committee this session! Thank you @youthjusticeagency.bsky.social
Youth Justice Agency NI hosted a delegation from Illinois, including State Legislators, policy makers, and practitioners, as part of a learning visit focussed on our child first approach. On how a rights based, trauma informed model supports better outcomes for children and communities”
Walz: "I call on all Americans to see the decency this state is exhibiting, and the horrific cruelty, unprofessional, absolute abomination that is passing for what these f--- ICE agents are doing on our streets."
I am proud to stand alongside legislative allies across the country in support of the people of Minnesota and their resistance to the federal invasion of their state.
Today, a new video features 36 lawmakers from 11 states standing with Minnesota and calling for accountability. State Futures is proud to help bring this coordinated effort to life, as state policymakers come together to defend democratic values.

Abigail Spanberger was told to throw trans youth under the bus during her campaign. She refused to do so. She won the election by 15 percent. A dominant victory. A landslide. She was just sworn-in as the 75th Governor of Virginia, the first woman to lead the state.
Yesterday, these incompetent fucks were just going door-to-door in a neighborhood near my house at 8:30 in the morning. School buses were driving through trying to pick up kids, people were out walking their dogs, and people were taking out their trash cans.
I don’t think people quite understand that the occupation by ICE in the Twin Cities has more or less erased non-white people from public life. They cannot safely exist in any space accessible to the public and moving between private places leaves folks vulnerable to kidnapping by armed masked goons.
Ok Springfield people. Shit’s getting serious. Can’t wait for the 4:45pm omnibus ideas to start coming in: www.tickcounter.com/countdown/91...

Today marks 1 year that we've shared this post every day as a gentle reminder. It was originally a throwaway thought, not part of a plan or bit, but it felt right to put focus here and hold it. Thanks for indulging this small act. Trans people can't be erased.
Today you should send love to your trans friends. Tomorrow, too. Maybe every day for a while.
As the 49th Ward Democratic Committeewoman, I’m pissed to read that an outside group is trying to bully Bruce Leon to withdraw from the 9th District race. Getting on the ballot is no small feat, and Bruce met every requirement to earn his place. x.com/EvRoundTable...

🚨CHICAGO SNAP ASSISTANCE🚨 (link to article in next post)
It’s crank the air to keep everyone awake o’clock in the House chamber. Breaking out the blankets…
NEW — In response to the pause in SNAP benefits scheduled for Nov. 1 due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, Gov. JB Pritzker signed an order to designate $20 million in state funding for 2,600 food pantries across Illinois. thetriibe.com/2025/10/prit...

The money is there. There are contingency funds. Trump is simply not releasing it because he wants people to starve and blame Democrats even though Republicans hold both chambers of Congress and the White House. And the media will happily go along.
In the 60-year history of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, it’s never run out of money. Here are the states suing the federal government over it.
Yesterday in Shilling v. Trump (the 9th Circuit case about the military transgender ban), the government admitted that it has found no evidence to support any of the "traits" that the Secretary of Defense attributed to transgender servicemembers.
The weekly Friday morning visibility action in our neighborhood had a very special visitor today!
