I’m teaching high schoolers this summer and giving them a bunch of weird fiction to look at and it’s been overwhelmingly positive. These kids go into all of this like you know what let’s lock in and crack this thing and it’s pretty fun to see

'the documentation of this violence might work against the state. These images can break our assumptions of those frequently painted as suspect simply for resisting far more ruthless state excesses. Think of the military raining pellets on young Kashmiris in 2016; opening fire on Manipuris...'

Before We Move On From Jantar Mantar, Remember the Past Decade of Student Resistance

From Rohith Vemula and Occupy UGC to the JNU 'sedition' case, the Jamia attack and Umar Khalid's imprisonment, the past decade shows why the student movement cannot afford to become a single-issue str...

This Publishers Weekly article from Jan. goes into more detail. It's not that they are TRYING to sell our work for training, it's that those companies are placing orders with booksellers and distributors. Most sellers aren't giving us the option Ingram is. www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

Ingram Lets Publishers Opt Out of Book Sales to Tech Firms

In a note sent last week to client publishers, Ingram Content Group warned of the “growing trend” of AI companies purchasing and scanning print books to train their large language models, and said pub...

Still looking for my secondary world fantasy to sweep me off my feet, so if you have one, please send it to Otherside? I like stories that feel brutal and sharp, beautiful prose, and audacious worldbuilding. Above all, I'm looking for ambition rather than stories that play within an existing canon

ICYMI, we are OPEN to original fiction and poetry by 2SLGBTQIA+ authors through July 21st! We're having the best time reading your wonderful work. Still deciding what to send us? We asked our reading team what they'd like to see more of, and they answered! Guidelines: othersidespec.com/guidelines

A good example of Kwame Ture's point that 'In order for nonviolence to work, your opponent must have a conscience.' He's asking for the most basic shit possible--the resignation of a minister who has failed in his duties. The regime won't even give that inch. They don't give a shit.

But the point of that film is that powers by themselves don't make you hero. And simply using AI to create something doesn't make you a writer or artist. Tech bros know this, so they want to change how we see the entire creative process. They want people to question real writers and artists. 5/

A year or so ago I spent several hundred bucks on a version of MS Word from 2019 explicitly so that it would not update and give be subscription nonsense or AI bullshit. It updated and broke everything. Now I can't create or edit documents and I'm out a whole bunch of money.

I hate this future. I'm so fucking pissed off. I just opened MS Word to look at a manuscript and suddenly I can't create or edit any documents because I don't have Microsoft 365. I'm not fucking buying MS 365, I bought THIS single license version of Word in 2024.

Slowly dying of Long Covid, a direct result of my covid infection in March 2020 before vaccines were available. It has been an excruciating few years that will end in early death or homelessness. Covid is still circulating, still disabling & more often than we like to admit, still ending lives.

my broke alternative to going to concerts where i can float away from my body is getting so high i start counting floaters and putting a speaker on my chest in the dark with tiger balm on my shoulders and a heating pad on my back
