Perfect Days is a thriller by Brazilian author Raphael Montes. I know this because we have a copy in the lodge library, and I read it last month. It’s definitely not an Agatha Christie, which is more my style. It’s creepy as hell, a stalker novel, and at one point the main character holds his kidnap victim in a cabin, outside of cell service, keeping her captive in all but plain sight.

This is...my novella. It's a three act tragedy about a trans cossack as he grows into a man, falls in love, and protects his loved ones from cruel enemies.

These are the kinds of details that storytellers have always elided in their work because they don't matter to the actual narrative. And while it is fun to poke holes, the fact that we're judging works almost solely by their perceived verisimilitude now is not doing anyone any good at all.

In the very first line of A Memory of Blood and Magic: “The first thing you need to know about me is that I killed my family.”

Fix your hearts or die. You know how many of us joke that Pride month should be followed by Wrath? This year I feel a deep, burning fury towards all who use transgender lives as political propaganda. We are human beings. You cannot erase us. Happy Pride. Trans liberation at any cost. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Medical practitioners should be instructed not to be visibly displeased when patients refuse to be recorded and have their words automatically transcribed. Nor should they insist that the transcription will then be checked by a human. If I refuse consent that should be the end of it.
