Bimetallic Activation of SF6 by a Bis(Gallylene)
The degradation of the kinetically inert and potent greenhouse gas sulfur hexafluoride by a bimetallic main-group ambiphile (Lewis amphotere) is reported. Reaction of the bis(gallylene) 1 with SF6 at 80 °C results in the selective formation of the bimetallic gallium(II) fluoride 2. Irradiation with UV light or the addition of 4-dimethylaminopyridine (4-DMAP) accelerates the reaction, enabling it to proceed already at room temperature. Computations reveal a bimetallic activation scenario and shed light on the accelerating effect of 4-DMAP.

Great talk by Muralee Murugesu in our last @gdch.de seminar of the semester about single molecule magnets, where we learned a lot. Many thanks for coming despite the long trip from @uottawa.ca to #CHEMnitz
I really much enjoyed my time at CIQSO in Huelva. Many thanks to @groupmartinez.bsky.social for having me and congratulations to Hellen Videa for an outstanding PhD thesis!!!
Today we had the great pleasure to have Seb @riedellab.bsky.social in our @gdch.de colloquium at #CHEMnitz. Great science and impressive insights into chlorine chemistry.
LOW-VALENT Si, Ge, Sn, Pb: HOW LOW CAN WE GO??? Hydrocarbon-soluble Mg(0) reduces Si all the way to Si(4-). Unfortunately not stable and decomposing to the HSi(3-) anion. However, Sn(4-) is stable and functions as 4-fold Nu or 8e reducing agent. Preprint: shorturl.at/4mH0O
Last week, Dietmar Stalke @unigoettingen.bsky.social gave a wonderful lecture on what a bond is and what not in our @gdch.bsky.social colloquium. Very inspiring and of high educational value. #CHEMnitz
Great to have @evaheviagroup.bsky.social as a Bessel price awardee with us at #CHEMnitz. Thanks for an inspiring talk and a fantastic kick-off of 2025 - the year in which @chemnitz.de is the European Capital of Culture @teichertlab.bsky.social @breugstlab.bsky.social @mikedelity.bsky.social
