The local mechanic shop we use is the one with a good reputation for dealing fairly and politely with women. It is also only about a mile from our house, so a nice bonus is that we can walk there to drop off/pick up.

If your business model is screwing people, I’m never going to believe that you’re treating your employees fairly.

You don’t want hands free driving, you want trains. You want trains you want trains you want TRAINS
This is not about the OP, but honestly, I think the constant harping on "no do THIS not THAT as a consumer" is designed to make you give up on climate. This is a job for good old fashioned government, one that regulates pollution, including greenhouse gases.
I'm getting dietary fatigue at this point. This is an OLD reality, but the solutions aren't as straightforward as some of the coverage would have you believe. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

What's your old person trait?
Even though gardening is a never-ending process, it's still REALLY satisfying to extract a big aggressive weed with all the roots attached so you know that specific plant won't be coming back.
“Why do WE have to get rid of our rapists but the Republicans don’t?” Setting aside all moral implications, it’s because around 70% (if not more) of Democratic volunteers are women and if they get totally disgusted with the party nobody is winning any elections anymore.
TIL my father was born the year penicillin became widely available. I had never really thought about it that way before. (The year is mentioned in "Everything is Tuberculosis" by John Green as the beginning of the antibiotic age and I went down the Wikipedia rabbit hole.)
Thinking today about how often SFF folks scoff at the idea that romance requires worldbuilding when we're out here daring to build societies where consent exists and is even tangentially understood, which is a task more ambitious than any magic system.
One thing that I suspect many people outside of the romance genre have rarely considered is how much worldbuilding it takes to create a world where consent is normalized. Its lack is so baked into our culture that it's more fantastical than flying cars and sea monsters. Days like this remind me.
Interesting post on Ask a Manager about a writer who is afraid of being accused of using AI when they don't use LLMs. Instead, their writing is edited. However, as the writer says, "The problem with heavily edited writing is that lots of readers now suspect or assume the content is AI-generated." 1/

@writerethink.bsky.social I imagine I'm not the only one who would be super interested in your take on this...
The last few months have been some of the hardest in my professional life, as Bona Books has worked through an AI crisis . We ploughed our time, love and energy into creating paid, professional opportunities for genuine queer writers - and someone tried to steal them.
We will also be posting a link later where anyone who missed out on @clairewillett.bsky.social's Haters Book Club or @courtneymilan.com's Pissbaby Rant can sign up for a second chance at them!
So if you were around when I first criticized Platner you might remember me and a few other female vets talking about this being a likely reveal. At the time one of his earliest defenders insisted it was our bias. No, it was our experience www.cnbc.com/2026/07/06/g...
Platner Senate campaign taking 'time to reflect' on path forward after sexual assault allegation
Platner and his campaign denied the accusations made by 41-year-old Maine resident Jenny Racicot in a POLITICO article published Monday.

I am so fucking tired of woman having to stand on a national stage and tear their hearts open and pour their trauma out in front of the entire country. And still not be believed. Or be told it doesn’t matter because we need her assaulter. I’m so tired of it.
Re: Graham Platner, I felt like I was being punked when people acted like he wasn’t obviously dishonest and untrustworthy this entire time. Starting with the unbelievable defense of his tattoo, which I was shocked to see people fall for
As I reiterate to my teens at regular intervals: anyone who cares about you will occasionally "check" you (before you wreck yourself) & also human psyches don't handle constant sycophancy well AT ALL. It's very unhealthy to be surrounded by people who only ever suck up to you. I imagine lonely, too.
There's a part in the book "Careless People" where the author beats Zuck at Settlers of Catan, and he is absolutely wrecked by it. Someone pulls her aside to explain everyone else has been letting him win for years. I think about this a lot re: why tech bros think everyone will love AI chatbots.
Romancing the Vote 2026: come for the schism, stay for the pissbaby (how could we have known that should have been the magnet???)
you have uncovered the truth that democratic party leaders pay experts millions to never uncover: folks be fuckin pissed
LMAO seriously! How much would we pay to hear our actual elected officials shit talk these losers?
Last count, @clairewillett.bsky.social & @courtneymilan.com have raised $25,000 for zooms talking about what absolute loser shitheads Alito & Vance are. Honestly folks sending desperate text messages asking me to rush them $20 are sleeping on this obvious solution.

I’m shaking with fury. That is SOOOOOOOOO NOT me!!! I have THICK freeform locs, and that is a HUGE deal and... that's not me! NOT EVEN CLOSE! And those are NOT my book covers (I'd never allow that cliché Lagoon cover with that fake future skyline! I hate those!!) and, just, what the fuck! Whyyyy?!?
I don't think youth sports under about age 12ish should be gender segregated so for kids especially it ought to be MOOT. Swimming times until then are *very* comparable, indistinguishable even, just for the example most familiar to me.
I do not understand the "fairness in sports" thing, in part because it isn't a thing, but also "fair to who" is always the question. People who are taller have an advantage in basketball. Does that mean we ban tall people? Why would THAT be fair?

One of the big blind spots of a lot of the White D politicians is that they have integrated "trust the expert" into their worldview, and they treat Cops as experts in crime, whereas they should be treated like the industry lobbyists (IE. with ton of skepticism)
