“Four Oregon Democratic lawmakers, and two hopefuls, are calling for a three-year moratorium on new data centers in the state in response to growing public concern over energy and water demand, farmland loss, tax fairness and community benefits[.]” Reporting from @alexbaumhardt.bsky.social

Democratic lawmakers propose three-year moratorium on new large data centers in Oregon • Oregon Capital Chronicle

Oregon would join 15 other states that have proposed data center pauses in the last year.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

An aircraft passenger oxygen mask: a drop down passenger mask with air bag and yellow plastic mouth and nose cover, oxygen tube has been cut; Demonstration model used by flight attendant crew for passenger instruction. Has text on the side indicating that it's non-functional.

The vast majority of our outlets are owned by right-wing billionaires and last night our most prominent political reporters spent an hour chuckling along with a clearly senile Republican president as he insulted them incoherently. Here's why our media has a liberal bias problem.

It is BEYOND depressing how many of the responses to this news are "well it must be mainly because of increased confidence, right? Better energy levels? People who take GLP1s are more likely to be improving their lives overall??" Truly, what would it take for you to believe that fatphobia is real?

GLP-1-induced weight loss increases single women's partnership rates by 29 percentage points and non-employed women's employment rates by 27 percentage points after 1.5+ years, from Rebecca Diamond www.nber.org/papers/w35387

The same is true of autoimmune diseases, frequently diagnosed in women during the perimenopause/menopause years. If you're a woman in your 40s or 50s, there is apparently no other malady that can impact you save menopause. I can't tell you how many times I heard it. thesicktimes.org/2026/07/10/s...

Stop telling women their Long COVID is menopause - The Sick Times

From friends to medics, women are used to having their health issues dismissed, minimized, or blamed on their hormones.

Fuck yeah! I've been wondering when Dr. Thrasher was going to sue given how egregious the actions taken against him by Northwestern were. His firing, their treatment of protestors, and their settlement w/ the administration are why my straight-A kid isn't applying to Northwestern this year.

"Other things that The Atlantic has declared to be ending: “The End of Men”, “The End of Diplomacy”, “The End of Trust”, “The End of Human Rights”, “The End of Democracy Has Already Begun”, “The End of Rule of Law in America”, “How America Ends”, “The End of the West”.

Everything is always ending in The Atlantic. Men, diplomacy, trust, world order, and so on and so on. It’s a business model likely pitched to older readers, whose keener understanding of their own mortality can sometimes make them project it onto the world around them. trib.al/Bpu8H0L

“But the bigger problem is how much of the media of ‘the left’ is dominated by men who appear to have no understanding of sexual abuse or intimate partner violence, but do have a pretty hefty sexist streak that they either aren’t aware of or don’t care to remedy.” YES @juliedicaro.bsky.social

We have an even bigger problem than Graham Platner

The candidate's rise and fall perfectly illustrates the sexism in lefty media

losingmyperspicacity.beehiiv.com

I think the Platner thing hit me so hard bc it was one of the most protracted, widespread acts of misogynist gaslighting from my own side that I've seen. We were presented with an obvious violent scumbag who was constantly lying (badly, might I add) and told we were crazy for not loving him
