Union hotel housekeepers in New York City will soon make over $100,000 a year. A new contract the union and the owners of nearly 250 hotels would raise wages by more than 50%. If workers ratify the deal it'll mean life-changing money for 27,000 union members and their families.

The City of Vancouver has just announced they had a $530 million surplus last year. It follows a $860 million surplus the year before, and years of $300+ surpluses. It's the annual reminder that when local politicians say times are tough, they're usually being misleading to suit their agendas.

Orbán's electoral crushing is a far greater achievement than most people outside Hungary realise. He systemically consolidated power for 16 years, fixed the electoral map, abused govt power for political purposes & censored media. The hurdles that Hungarians overcame for this moment were immense.

Just loving how much we can watch live - for free - these days. I've watched Artemis ii, the Hungarian election results and street party, and now fka twigs at Coachella. So used to the enshitification of the web, it's nice to notice the good things we never used to have.
