Crete! Home base for the next few days! Agii Apostolis, west of Chania, with the White Mountains as a backdrop. Also the location of the British hospital and then POW camp during WW2. Going to sit on that beach and not go on any silly adventures. Well, maybe one or two... #Greece #Travel #History

Stained glass depicting Saint George at the Garden Museum, formerly St. Mary's Church, Lambeth. The church is medieval, though the stained glass was destroyed in WW2 and replaced in the 1950s.

Facebook has reminded me it's been 2 years since I was in Crete "walking the ground" in the snow to find the spot where secret agent and travel writer Patrick Leigh Fermor parachuted in and the cave where he hid while organising the kidnap of the islands German commandant. #WW2 #History #Travel ✈️🗺️
