Cumulative restoration action leads to improved vegetative response in shrub‐encroached wet prairies of coastal Florida, U.S.A.
This study shows effective restoration of shrub-encroached wet prairies may require more than conventional management tools. The cumulative effect of three treatment approaches, removal of woody shru...

US should reject color-blind racial ideology
The Trump administration’s executive orders (EOs) 14281 (1), 14173 (2), and 14151 (3) suggest that diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) initiatives give jobs and other opportunities to unqualified women and people of color. These EOs use “color-blind” language and ideology (4)—unfounded claims that structural racism no longer exists (4, 5)—to attempt to create a false narrative that ongoing “preferential treatment” for people in protected categories leads to favoritism that must be eliminated in the name of fairness. To provide a clearer understanding of who benefits and suffers from racism in the US, and how inequities can be addressed, politicians, scientists, and the public must recognize that color-blind language perpetuates structural racism and avoid its use (4).

Apparently my former MS committee member is involved here, truly not surprised. I spent 7 years at SELU and had nothing but a horrible experience. Toxic people in a toxic place apparently 🤷♀️

Hey #botany2025 make sure to check out the Disabled in Botany symposium this afternoon (1:30, Catalina)!!
I am excited to welcome #Botany2025 to my big backyard in the California desert. I kicked off the conference with a field trip up the Palm Springs tramway to explore the beautiful flora of the San Jacinto Mountains. I hope everyone enjoys Palm Springs!
Hey #botany2025 friends, is anyone going to the conference who wants to volunteer to be the "host" of the Botanists of Color affinity group meetup? The initial host can't attend the meetings :( Being host = being the contact person w/ BSA, and maybe saying a few welcome statements before event.
Coming to #Evol2025 and considering a non-academic career? Join me for our panel discussion on Friday afternoon!!
At the American Public Gardens Association in Denver meeting this week, glad I grabbed a copy of the Flora of Colorado 😍 it’s beautiful
What a tragic loss. Shu-Mei was such a kind, incredibly smart, and truly empathetic mentor. Such a joyful person. I’m so grateful to have known her. She so patiently walked me through my first conference poster. Later, she was a vital member of my graduate committee. She will be so missed.
Plant evolutionary ecology has lost a very rare talent. Shu-Mei was a genuinely kind, whip-smart, reasonable, creative, bright light of a person. www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/a...
