how fucking sad though, to be the richest man in the world and not know what a good tomato tastes like. Capitalism has always failed in its attempts to quantify and understand what makes our lives beautiful.

New zine: Doors, by Lee & Anna | Lee Does Stuff

My friend Anna has been taking photos of doors while traveling and posting them on instagram for awhile now, and I always loved the series a

Any thoughts on where in the Portland area I might be able to source an old newspaper box?? I want to start a little free blockbuster! Willing to drive to Salem, Vancouver, etc. Looking for free or cheap-ish (finding them on FB marketplace for $300 😬)

I love gardening as a hobby, but I’m glad I choose to do it and don’t rely on it to live. I haven’t gotten far into the storage yet—fridge pickles, I’ve dabbled with a little fermentation, and then lots of freezing mostly, which works great! (Also: my newest zine is about gardening as a fun hobby!)

Gardening is good for your mind and body even though it won't make you self sufficient. even better is learning how to safely store food, pressure canning being my favorite method. buying in bulk and storing when food is in season and cheap

Pet peeve: “an intern is having a really bad day” about a social media situation. For several years sm has been very important for companies, interns aren’t doing it! Just saw someone say it about the company I worked for—the sm guy got paid more than I did & of course his position didn’t get cut!

I was going to write today, but until we know more, I don't have any new words for this moment. What I will say is that if you are reeling, and you know you want to be part of making things better, Mariame Kaba and I wrote a book for you. I hope it helps.

Let This Radicalize You

Doing Justice: The Revolution of Rescue and Reciprocal Care is a practical and imaginative resource for activists and organizers building power in an era of destabilization and catastrophe.

It is really, really wild how persistent and prominent this remains in common LLMs. There seems to be an air of "well they fixed that" and it is 100% not true: most of the energy just seems to be going towards 'being plausible enough to be accepted', ie style and not accuracy or truth

Paris Marx@parismarx.com · 6mo ago

OpenAI ”acknowledged in its own research that LLMs will always produce hallucinations due to fundamental mathematical constraints that cannot be solved through better engineering, marking a significant admission from one of the AI industry’s leading companies.” You can’t trust chatbots.

Well it’s been 26 days since this went wide and I haven’t seen a single response. I have a huge stash of their yarn I brought home during my 6 years of working there, but I will stop tagging them when I use it because they don’t want to be tagged on anything political and EVERYTHING IS POLITICAL 🤷‍♀️

FYI knitters and crocheters - Knit Picks, Jimmy Beans, Madeline Tosh, Berrocco are apparently ok with fascism

I am SO behind schedule on multiple projects, sick with a cold, trying to work on this pattern which has been like alllmost done for over a week but still quite far from being actually really done…

This was a great listen. Take an hour of your day to put this on. There is a profound historical precedent for librarians and archivists being among the very first people targeted by authoritarians. Librarians are the keepers of collective knowledge. It's a sacred responsibility.

Puff the Magic Hater@mskellymhayes.bsky.social · 5mo ago

I talked with @prisonculture.bsky.social, Alison Macrina, and Katie Clark about libraries as public infrastructure, contested political terrain, and spaces of possibility—and about what it means to fight for them in this fascistic moment.

If we let them, these people will destroy everything that makes human civilization worth saving. It’s frightening how much power and influence we have allowed these tech feudalists to accumulate - and it will be one of the twenty-first century’s defining struggles to wrest it back from them.

Billionaire Marc Andreessen says he has "zero" introspection, and that the idea itself is a modern invention.

The voice and method and feeling and ambition and love of contemporary television criticism would be practically unimaginable without Matt Zoller Seitz. Buy some books from his wonderful store!

THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!

Ugh feel like cultural progress has been moving backwards. Rise in vegan foods having been a trend that is no longer in fashion. Learning that the company where I was on the DEI committee & helped design pride flag patterns is now refusing to support influencers who make a red hat.Shit is depressing
