Almost all of the artists I know have, either openly or in secret, supported themselves (especially as they were still struggling to get established) with what others would label porn  And I absolutely agree that is something the current regime finds reprehensible – not the porn. But the freedom.
I've long suspected that the right's disdain for erotica (and the arts in general) is that it's one of the few avenues still theoretically available to the plebs for class mobility
Cargie@cargie.baby · 1h agoIt was NEVER about restricting pornographic material, it was about bringing it under the control of corporations, and removing the ability of independent NSFW artists, who are often queer, to make any kind of a living so they starve to death

For what it’s worth, I really do view whatever success I’ve had as an author as 95% luck. Every book of mine that’s sold was either MTBMW or sold in the wake of MTBMW mildly exceeding publisher expectations. Right place, right time, right title.
This is nuts. Every time I’m thinking about becoming a member again they pull some despicable anti-artist shit anti-human shit like this. The HWA should be ashamed to platform this op-ed
