This post, and 95% of the replies to it, have shown me that (1) people outside of Minnesota *really* don’t understand what happened there, (2) this disconnect also them to use Minnesotans as props in their Hogan’s Heroes-ified fantasies that are completely divorced from our reality on the ground

Apparently people are sharing this far and wide on social media, which I think is horrible. This could cripple ICE operations. PLEASE do not share this.

"We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation in realizing that. This enables us to do something, and to do it very well. We may never see the end results, but that is the difference between the master builder and the worker.

We’re not in the habit of recognizing celebrity deaths here at 925. That said, Dolly Parton is a national treasure and some folks here joke that Dolly is our Locals patron saint. After all her song “9 to 5” is our anthem. Today we remember all the love and kindness Dolly brought the world.

Tribute-style portrait of a Dolly Parton performing in a ruffled light purple blouse, arm raised and singing into a microphone, overlaid with the lyric: "You're just a step on the bossman's ladder / But you've got dreams he'll never take away."

Dollyland employees, both part time and full time, receive 100% of tuition covered. Healthcare, medical, vision, retirement benefits, childcare. A saint that walked among us. Every other wealthy person should be ashamed of themselves if they don't live up to Dolly standards.

I started my PhD program with an eight week old at home, sole income being my doctoral stipend, in a history program, in Knoxville, TN. And every month we got a new book to read to my son, free, mailed to us, so my kid, my kids, grew up in rooms full of books even when I had no money. That's Dolly.

Jeffries came out against Medicare For All, a policy that would fundamentally transform the material reality of every single person in this country, but especially black folks who are disproportionately suffering under the current healthcare system. Clearly, Hakeem’s race is incidental TO HIM.

Food companies wanted deregulation. Now there are dozens of recalls across the country. Mining companies wanted deregulation. Now the black lung rate is at a 45-year high. Financial companies wanted deregulation. Now financial losses to fraud are the highest on record. Noticing a pattern?
