Re: Airtable - I’m seeing folks say let’s see what happens. Thats fine but you do need a plan because we know what will happen. They were acquired by a company with a predictable playbook. Major layoffs. Massive price hikes. Worse service. This is not an investment. It was a firesale

Airtable was just acquired by Bending Spoons. Goodbye to Airtable.

If your business runs on Airtable or worse, if your business IS Airtable, you need to make your own exit plan

PE and VC are usually both bad in the end, but PE is almost always worse every step of the way, especially when their "acquisitions" are funded by making the company they acquire take on a ton of debt to make the acquisition happen.

I'm seeing folks conflate private equity with venture capital when it comes to Bending Spoons buying Airtable. This is not an investment. This is a buyout. That makes our timeline for needing to leave FASTER. Wrote a second story about this to explain

After I posted about the Bending Spoons/Airtable buyout, Ted Fickes shared that his pricing for Harvest (bought by Bending Spoons in 2025) is going up 1000% next month. From $12 to $122 PER MONTH I may be a hyperbolic cynic but I am not wrong about the need for an exit plan

Help! My favorite tool was bought by private equity

Bending Spoons buying Airtable has small business owners conflating two VERY different types of funding (private equity and venture capital). Here's what those terms mean and what they imply about what's next.

Maybe I need to do a post about what VC is vs what a private equity acquisition is because there’s a lot of conflating going on and they have completely different implications for whats next

It’s important to understand the difference between venture capital—committed to grow a company usually on the trajectory they’re already on and private equity—an extraction of value from a company as a last ditch effort to squeeze cash out before it dies

I'm not a journalist. I don't give a fuck about being objective. I'm hyperbolic, cynical and speculative. I always root in facts AND source them but when it comes to my viewpoint, I say what I think unfiltered and I don't think I owe anyone anything other than that

People get on me about being a tech skeptic. I do often take the worst possible outlook view of what's coming next for tech companies and that's because I worked in tech. I spent a lot of time with VCs and founders. I know the game. And we're not part of it.

Was trying to do an annual update, but it has come to my realization that Trump wiped everything between FY2024 and FY2026 from the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub. @thexylom.com now has one of the last independent copies of data re: H-1B skilled workers in America's top higher education institutions.

EXCLUSIVE: A new analysis by The Xylom's @alexip718.com shows for the first time just how much America’s top research institutions have grown to depend on H-1B skilled workers — and how this delicate balance might be disrupted by U.S. President Donald Trump’s crackdown on legal immigration.

these numbers going up are super important because we invest as much money back into the site as we can without starving. more $$$ means more writers, more freelance, more merch, more everything. so your $75 sub in 2026 will get you so much more by 2028, etc etc. it's an investment!

when i say it was a big week: look at these spikes for unique visitors, paid subscribers and monthly revenue (the subs and MRR are scaled and dont start at zero, obv, we didn't double them, but still!)

thank you SO MUCH to everyone who subscribed or just otherwise enjoyed Hater Week, it was one of the biggest weeks in the site's history (in terms of pageviews AND new subscribers) Because of this, we're extending the sale. $75 for a 'Member' sub is an absolute steal.

This is an important read. The US is dismantling 20+ yr old programs that give minority-owned businesses the slightest shot at opportunities. It's happening city by city, state by state and the feds are doing it too. Christine Edwards Pitkin wrote about why it matters qcnerve.com/opinion-nort...
