Cesar kills it talking to the press here. Media training is way outside of our usual job description so we are learning to represent ourselves and advocate for this cause in real time. It's not easy to stand in front of a camera on one of the hottest days of the summer! I'm glad we did it together.

I was Jess' reference applying to the warehouse soon after she moved to Minneapolis. When she was squeezed for health insurance (third-party temp agency coverage cost $110+ per week, HR dept told her to seek employment elsewhere) it was a lightning rod catalyst. An injury to one is an injury to all.

Our employer relocated from Los Angeles and incentivized moving to Minneapolis for workers like Esme and Cesar. The company was soon after acquired by Sony Music/The Orchard and when we unionized they announced intention to relocate all warehouse operations.

Evan Minsker@see-saw.fun · 2mo agoThis story is about the Kings Road Merch warehouse. Punk artists work there shipping punk merch. Last year, it was acquired by Sony Music. One month ago, workers voted to unionize. On Tuesday, before the first bargaining session, Sony Music announced they’re shuttering the Minneapolis warehouse.

Norm Charlatan@normcharlatan.bsky.social · 6mo agoThe other part is that there’s tons of cascading problems that require systemic solutions, most notably, getting people economic support who haven’t been able to work for the past two (or more) months because the federal government was trying to ethnically cleanse them. Rent is due this week.
