Allow me to sourpuss for a moment Unrelated to being a cop-aligned event, I don't love NNO bc being from Chicago I just think they are weak block parties. Sorry, but a block party should last all day! Everyone should move their car & it should start w bloodies at 10am & end w fireworks after dark!

Reminder that CoreCivic is an evil company getting rich off human trafficking. Their business interest is in keeping as many people detained as possible. And the CEO's last name is quite literally SWINDLE.
Prison industry giant CoreCivic announced Monday that it has finalized a five-year federal contract to reopen a long-shuttered prison in Appleton that will now hold immigrant detainees.
TBH Cat Power being antivax feels like the least surprising turn I could imagine
Cat Power is antivax
During Powderhorn Art Fair I saw a bunch of folks from MPRB driving around in little off-road mini trucks and I was kind of shocked to see they were stinky diesel vehicles. WHY are they not electric!

New research shows that the US has been a global laggard curbing crash deaths. If the US had merely matched improvements in 14 peer nations, 500,000+ lives would have been saved from 2000-24. doi.org/10.1080/1538...
I just finished rewatching The Good Place and I was very amused at the prescience of including a cybertruck in Bad Janet's void (this episode came out in 2019)
Some #carryshitolympics from yesterday as I loaded out of the Powderhorn Art Fair. Pulling an industrial embroidery machine, stock, tent, and display stuff on a 5' long Bikes at Work trailer, about 400lbs. Felt like the smuggest bitch biking by dozens of cars lined up and idling waiting to load out
This might be the only story that has made me think anything positive about AI, but still it feels complicated bc ultimately it's not doing anything to fix the broken system, it's just automating a way through it. I would love to know @emilymbender.bsky.social and @alexhanna.bsky.social's takes
For those with criminal records, AI is breaking down barriers to employment
Tens of millions of Americans have criminal records that can be barriers to employment. An AI-powered app is helping those eligible to expunge their records at a pace not seen before.

He's just talking pop-science gibberish. The contemporary Four Humors are just dopamine, cortisone, oxytocin and serotonin. All behavior is explained by too much or too little of one of them lol.
"I refuse to buy your book from the evil corp that built my proprietary reading device and I refuse to get it from the library because I'm impatient" feels like it belongs in the louvre of bluesky (too bad they're gone)
There was, however, one exception to this: Minneapolis-St Paul. There, a finance bro, the mob, and a crooked lawyer really did buy the trains and sell them for scrap - but that was the exception, not the rule. 12/12
How a Lawyer, a Businessman, and the Mafia Destroyed Public Transit in the Twin Cities
There is a common folk theory that the North American streetcar disappeared because of a conspiracy. Allegedly, industrialists connected with the auto and motor bus industries bought up North Ameri…

I'm already a "kids need boredom, boredom is exercise for your imagination" crank
It's cooled down but due to the humidity I'm sweating buckets every time I move around. Fun 🫠
Maybe nothing is more depressing to me about AI bullshit right now than hearing ads for Claude on 99% Invisible.
"Being brought into" a culture rife w/ sexual harassment & abysmal boundaries & making the choice to join in & participate doesn't absolve you from fault or guilt, AND you're in a position of authority. Like I said before, she doesn't even understand what she's doing wrong, & that's disqualifying.
Her's new statement, in response to questions from the Star Tribune:
If you spend $4k buying a "vintage" chainstitch embroidery machine on eBay you are a sucker (at best, only the body is actually vintage) and you do not get to tout having a vintage machine, because knowing the provenance is what makes a vintage tool meaningful.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?
In Counterpart (one of the best shows I've ever seen) the world has split into two parallel universes, one that had a pandemic and one that did not. When a character from the non-pandemic world crosses over he's flummoxed by how bleak everything in the pandemic world is, how few ppl are ever out...
One of my Crank Theories of Everything, at least of Everything in the Recent Past, is that we are dealing (badly) with COVID trauma we’d mostly prefer to pretend never happened.
Gotta say I really agree with this take. The whole thing feels like a "the two worst ppl you know are fighting!" situation. Sexual harassment sucks no matter who is the perpetrator. I'm struggling w the story here bc we know that policing as an institution has a major problem w sexual violence.
🧵1/2 It's way way too early to know what's going on in Saint Paul, but here's how it feels to me so far. Cops send each other absolutely horrid stuff, but they've learned how not to leave a paper trail. The mayor tried to be "one of the gang" and sent something fairly mild, but still wrong.
It bears repeating: we are $30mil in the hole and the MPD is $24mil+ over budget on overtime and BY THEIR OWN ADMISSION it was to sit on their fucking asses and do. jack. fucking. shit. You don’t get to claim you’re understaffed when you DON’T FUCKING DO ANYTHING!
The awful—and predictable—result of federal agents refusing to wear standardized uniforms with identifying features.
Oregon State Police say men posing as ICE agents — complete with a vehicle with emergency lights — pulled over, detained and assaulted a driver near Woodburn on July 17. OSP also said someone contacted the victim for legal representation related to the incident.
I'm thinking about how there is a trend of centrist female Democrats wearing denim jackets and I was pretty sure Krysten Sinema wore one to senate at some point and this scammy website came up and OH MAN do I want to order this just to see what arrives lol www.filmsjackets.com/kyrsten-sine...
Angie Craig, Haley Stevens, Pearll Warren... Middle aged conservative Dem women love to wear a jean jacket to say "I'm not like a regular politician, I'm a cool politician!"
angie craig boasting the endorsement of the "frist" lady of minnesota this morning, whatever THAT is
Rationally, I know ANYTHING I post here will be sucked into AI training data. (Although I do not consent!) BUT I especially can't do any of those fun/cute image chains (post an album! post a sign! post you 10 years ago!) bc it really, really just feels like challenges created expressly to train LLMs
Out here sending salty emails to every local business I like that doesn't include a salary in their job postings. It's the law, bro. 😎
Having worked in the sex toy industry I actually think these glasses would be fine and possibly more profitable if they were sold explicitly as sex toys meant for making adult content at home. Maybe they could say "horny vision" across the bridge so no one would WANT to wear them out of the house.
FWIW, Meta was fully aware of how these glasses would primarily be used. The glasses were designed to erase consent, and that is why they exist. Anything that they do that suggests they want to ameliorate this use is an attempt to win the PR battle and manipulate public opinion.
I am both gobsmacked and angrily unsurprised by the stories in these comments about how badly Black shoppers are being treated in stores that already lock everything up. What the actual fuck.
At the Walmart in an all Black part of New Orleans a worker sits with a cart full of plastic cases. She opens the locked cabinet of deodorant, takes out your choice, and puts it in another locked container you put into your cart. The cashier unlocks that container after you pay for it. 😑
I'm officially set up at Audrey Rose Vintage in Longfellow! Come see me every Friday from 12-5 at 3508 Snelling Ave S, Minneapolis
