Missouri elections be like: Hitler (R) 79% - Christ (D) 21% And then the ballot initiative: Amend the Missouri constitution to require the state to own the means of production and work towards full communism? Yes 92% - No 8%
Of all the things to admit on the internet, “I don’t know how bananas work” is one of the funniest
Spoken like a man who has never had to shop for himself.
Food has gotten better. Air travel has gotten better. Home entertainment has gotten better. Cars have gotten better. I can’t think of a single thing that hasn’t gotten better since the mid-80s. You just think it was better then because you were a child and had no responsibilities.
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.
it's world war one when the British ran out of artillery shells all over again
It rules that everybody is learning that in a modern war if you don’t win right away you use up all the expensive equipment and then you’re in an interminable rock fight
A number of seemingly smart people want to make DST permanent… look at who you are siding with.
Trump on daylight savings time:
Look, I realize BlueSky wants to be a sports app, but until y'all learn you don't need to pay attention to Clay Travis, its never going to be the sports app it can be.
The test of the new regime is if they really can spin gold out of straw with these arms. Like, if you’re a volume shooter and one of these guys turns into… Tanner Roark or Tyler Clippard (other similarly regarded prospects at the time) then it’s a win.
Prospect “depth” isn’t a thing. Having 20 guys who have a 0.5% chance of making meaningful contributions rounds to zero. The Nats only got 2 maybe 3 actual useful players back. Depth is just something for dudes who like to make lists without any retro reflection.
Another thing to tear out on January 21.
Scoop: Trump has ordered workers to redo weeks of work on his planned White House helipad new WaPo photos show how past work was removed over weekend Trump is contemplating changes to White House lawn's slope, raising bigger Qs about project and cost
Remember when the Town of Foxboro held out to insure their costs were covered in advance and folks were like, that’s unreasonable…
The US host cities for the 2026 men's World Cup claim that they were *verbally* promised $1 million each by Gianni Infantino and that FIFA hasn't paid up. Truly incredible stuff. www.nytimes.com/athletic/749...
My unified theory of everything continues to be the destruction of “rec” sports and emphasis on professionalized youth sports is a real skeleton key for a lot of our problems.
Youth sports were doomed when they got sucked into the hypercompetitive college admissions game. Soccer practice used to be a way to kill time after school until you could leave work to pick your kid up; now it's another thing your kid must excel at or they aren't getting into Yale.
As it stands, this would be the 12th loss by the Nats where they held a three-run lead.
With the Phillies down 3-0, Derek Hill puts Philly ahead with a seventh-inning grand slam. Wow.
Griffin is going to make an incredibly low score answer to the “Nationals + 10-Game winner” @immaculategrid.com square in the future.

On this trade deadline, let’s take a moment to appreciate that the O’s and Elias told everyone how fucking smart they were and won as many playoff games as I did did before selling off alleged core piece again.
Stealing from @rfcapsmoustache.bsky.social but absolutely calling Virguez “The Typo.”
Foster Griffin was traded for Will Dion, Josh Hartle, Kendeglys Virguez and Nick Mitchell
On the one hand, better for him to fixate on this stuff (that probably won’t ever happen), on the other… what a stupid time to be alive.
I completely missed this. As part of Trump’s planned rebuild of Dulles (because playing with his toys is basically all he wants to do these days) he says he wants to build a parking garage that would be 60% larger than the current largest parking *lot* in the world?
People love cheap bullshit, but we also love the little dopamine rush from screen bullshit so when you’re never actually touching or seeing the product before you click buy, you’re way less likely to notice why it’s cheap bullshit.
I think this thread is basically what I believed when I began covering the consumer system and while a lot of what Nathan is describing is factually correct as to the mechanisms by which the system itself works, I’ve eventually had to admit that a lot of people also do just love cheap bullshit
want to expand upon the latter part: most teams do extremely uninteresting shit with their playing time when they are bad, most often employing role 4/45 filler veterans with no upside. The 2026 Nats handed their’s to post hype sleeper busted prospects, hit on several, and traded them for real value
Cebert is the latest Yankees college diversification arm whose stuff jumped in their pitching program and Grable and Cruz both profile as excellent high leverage relief types, that’s a great portfolio return for renting out corner playing time for a few months
“We’re looking to make hockey trades” - Paul Toboni.
the Nationals making baseball trades that aren’t clear buys or sells kinda rocks
I don’t like it, but it makes some sense. Trade Luis, keep Griffin. Maybe add a credible bullpen option or two They’re still in it, even after this disastrous weekend in Atlanta.
@JonHeyman tweeted Action heating up around Luis Garcia Jr., who has emerged as a very productive bat for the Nats (.560 slug leads NL). Garcia, who was scratched today, is drawing interest from at least the Astros, Red Sox and Yankees
