This is basically true wrt the invention of “jaywalking”. Previously pedestrians ruled the streets but w the intro of cars many people were being killed. So the auto industry lobbied to pass laws making it illegal to cross the street & ran PSAs calling anyone who was hit a f***ing idiot (“jay”).
