That "men should be allowed, without judgement or consequence, to do an amount of harm to women and girls that I personally deem acceptable" seems to be a genuine opinion still held by too many people in the year two thousand and twenty six is incredibly grim

A question for the Sky. I just saw The Odyssey (a triumph, must-see!), and it made me wonder why we still use so many girl names from that era (Helen, Penelope, Cassandra), but not the boy names (Telemachus, Eurylochus, Agamemnon)? Does anyone know why? #odyssey
Five living writers that you’ve read five books by each: Margaret Atwood Jodi Picoult George RR Martin Sarah J Maas Stephen King Interestingly, all but one of these are from my 20s before algos took over book recs. I’d go back to an author I already knew. Now I read a lot more different authors.

The US women's team has 4 world cup titles and 5 Olympic gold medals. They're a heavy favorite for the women's world cup next year. The Men's team has 0 in both. The women get the job done.
This Is Just To Say I told you so about that thing you disagreed with me about of which irrefutable proof has now emerged Forgive me it is too delicious too sweet not to remind you that you were wrong
I’ve decided that “heat dome” sounds like a dessert. Like if you crossed a Baked Alaska and chocolate lava cake.
Adventures in unemployed baking continues. Today’s chapter is my first attempt at meggyes pite- Hungarian sour cherry pie, thanks to actually finding meggy/sour cherries at the local farmer’s market.

Screwworm has been detected in Texas for the first time in 60 years. Good thing government scientists (who we can thank for the original solution way back when) are not totally undermined and undervalued these days!
Happy Tuesday! Who's ready to hear about 1. Flesh-eating maggots (mostly go after cattle) 2. They're native to the US 3. The USDA has kept them out of the US since the 1960s 4. But the flesh-eating maggots are making a 21st century comeback. And believe it or not it may be thanks to MAGA.

I’m a climate scientist. Let me fix this headline. “Nearly a century ago, scientists showed that burning fossil fuels warms the planet. Today, we know human emissions account for over 100% of the warming. Yet dark money and disinformation still work to keep Americans addicted to fossil fuels.”
Scientists have reached a consensus that human behavior is a big driver of climate change—but Americans aren't buying it.
It’s rhubarb season! This is my Aunt Marlene’s strawberry-rhubarb upside-down cake. This is the first cake I ever made as a kid, literally the easiest thing ever, and it’s such a crowd-pleaser. All you need is 4 stalks of rhubarb, a box of strawberry Jello, and a box of yellow cake mix.

the us federal government did not fucking do shit about the dustbowl until it got so bad the dust hit DC It is objectively bad (from a policy perspective) that in the northeast/mid-Atlantic this winter was cold and this spring has been mild. MY HEAT IS STILL COMING UP and it's mid-May.
Hungary’s parliament sings “Ode to Joy” — the anthem of Europe — after Péter Magyar is sworn in as prime minister. Hungary is once again a proud member of the European Union.
My new favorite sentence from David Attenborough’s wiki is: “Aged around 11, he heard that the zoology department needed a large supply of newts.” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_A...
Be the kind of person where scientists trip over themselves to name new species after you.

My coral honeysuckle is gorgeous this year! This is the native honeysuckle to N America, not the invasive yellow/white version you’re likely familiar with. #BloomScrolling #NativePlants
