This is the one kind of questioning that Trump has literally never faced: just basic questions about facts & how the world works. He was able to become president while never understanding the first fucking thing about anything, in part because he was *never asked*.

If I were emperor for a day, one change I'd make: In every political race, at every level, at least the *first* debate would be replaced by a simple test of knowledge. How do taxes work? What agency is responsible for what? Is your area growing or shrinking in population? Just basic stuff.
At the moment we have no real idea how to scale up carbon removal--it's a hair on the mole of the ugly backside of the global hydrocarbon industry But we do know how to scale up solar panels and wind turbines and batteries. So that's our job billmckibben.substack.com/p/facts-on-t...
Facts on the ground
Two things matter now: votes, and solar panels. (And wind turbines. And batteries)

under remarked on aspect of trump is his deep hatred of natural beauty and the natural world.
OMG did yall know that man in the White House is changing East Potomac Park (including Hains Point) into a “championship golf course”?! They’ve already started cutting down the trees. And some of the cherry blossom trees that are only found one place on earth, DC.
If you see The Green Man's Debt will be published on 10th September and realise you planned on catching up with The Green Man's Holiday? Good news! The ebook is a UK Kindle 99p deal throughout September and price-matched on other websites. www.amazon.co.uk/Green-Mans-H...
The ebook edition of Kim Stanley Robinson's early novel, The Memory of Whiteness, is on sale at Amazon US for $1.99. I remember how I loved this story when it first came out. I haven't read it since, but I'm going to pick up a copy so I can re-read it soon.
The overriding motivation of this administration is fear. Fear of questions, fear of transparency, fear of the American people.
The culture of fear and intimidation instilled at the Department of Defense all stemming from Pete Hegseth’s incompetence and insecurities. A never ending quest to hide the truth from the American people and hunt down anyone who lets the truth leak out.

Anthropic Copyright Settlement: Publishers Are Making Incorrect Claims on Authors' Payouts - Writer Beware
This week, many authors who are part of the Anthropic copyright class action settlement began receiving notices like these: The one on the right invites authors to review and confirm their claims: jus...

I get on the metro and there’s federal police parked and posted outside the station, I get off the metro and there’s 15 FBI agents standing around.
THEN it will list your disputed works. You can look and see who else is claiming a share in your work. The thing I did was: * set allocation to 100% me and say there were no other rights holders * upload my reversion letter
In case you are involved in the Anthropic copyright settlement. @courtneymilan.com has extremely helpful information.
Someone asked how you would know if this happens. This is how I found out: they sent me an email that says that someone is disputing what percentage of rights I should have for a specific work. If you go to the site in question, it will list all your undisputed works first.
From the article: ' “You have a responsibility to the land that you’re on,” he said, “to the people, to the air that you breathe, to the water that you drink” — a shared kuleana (responsibility) that doesn’t discriminate by how long someone’s family has been here.'

I feel like I’m living In a dystopian novel written in 1993 that was rejected by dozens of publishers because it was incredibly stupid.
106 years ago, the 19th Amendment was certified, giving women the right to vote after decades of organizing, protest, and sacrifice. Voting is one of our most basic rights, and we can’t take it for granted. Every generation has to show up and protect it.

I know! I know. I’m being very annoying with all this “book promo” stuff, but hey, I got a book out, and if I don’t promo it, they pull a lever and I fall into a glass tube …

That was a weird Internet outage. Amazon and NYT were fine, Walmart sort of okay, CNN slooow, DownDetector down (LOL) along with BlueSky, Facebook, etc. All seems fine now.
I hope 2025 & 2026 have adequately prepared everyone for the shitshow that will be 2027: Strongest El Niño and highest global temperature on record Energy and affordability crisis from the illegal war End of 3-year federal science grants awarded in 2024 AI bubble bursting Continued rise of fascism
We're now on day 83 of record breaking daily global sea-surface temperatures. There's still an outside chance that this year could break the all-time daily record set back on April 24, 2024. The Climate Casino is taking the Over.
Greg Bear sf-encyclopedia.com/entry/bear_g... was born on this day, so here are some of his book covers (Artist: John Harris, Trevor Newman, Ron Walotsky and John Harris):
Miller helped carry wounded sailors to safety aboard the West Virginia. He then hopped on a AA gun and despite no training at all shot down at least one plane despite being under constant attack. He was later killed action aboard the USS Liscome Bay during Operation Galvanic
The US Navy is working to rename an aircraft carrier under construction that was set to honor a Black sailor hailed for his heroic actions during the attack on Pearl Harbor, and there have been internal conversations about renaming it to honor President Trump, sources say. https://cnn.it/4hFq6a6
What makes this even more grotesque is that Doris Miller was denied the medal of honor when he was alive just because he was black. bsky.app/profile/carl...

Unspeakably disgraceful. Doris Miller was a mess attendant -- the only jobs open to Black sailors -- who won the Navy Cross at Pearl Harbor. With this, and reports USN leaders are considering changing the design of aircraft carriers *because Trump said so* -- the Navy is dishonoring itself.

Dorie Miller was only allowed to work in a Navy mess due to segregation, but he leapt to work a gun when the attack happened. In sharp contrast, Donnie Trump got five medical deferments to keep from having to fight in Vietnam. The USS Bone Spurs doesn‘t really sing

This is, bar none, the stupidest fuckung thing I’ve ever heard. And the idea that there’s nobody in the chain of command - civilian or military - with enough courage to say so is a disgrace.
Navy weighs major warship redesign to match Trump’s preferences
The president wants the new fleet of aircraft carriers to more resemble those from World War II. Such a change could cost billions.
