When I'm in Manchester, I like to visit Johanna Domke-Guyot's moving sculpture Victory Over Blindness outside Piccadilly station. More than 3,000 men lost their sight in the First World War, and this was believed to be the UK's first memorial to portray disabled soldiers.

Newsreel clip, IWM IWM 508-64, shows the German A7V Tank 'Elfriede', that rolled on its side Apr 24 1918. It was salvaged and repaired so that it could move under its own power. UK and French soldiers cheer while on top. It was later moved and put on display at Place de la Concorde, in Paris, France

In Wijtschate’s Hospicestraat in 2020, the most impressive discovery was a series of stairs leading to a German dugout, the Kortestollen. While maps indicated this system was near the road, its exact location and extent had remained unknown until our excavation.
