It feels like Silicon Valley doesnt produce advancements in technology so much as advancements in human ruthlessness. They expand the boundaries of exploitation and cruelty, not of engineering and science.

It's so annoying that there's hardly even any interesting idea, qua logician, underlying reasoning AI's explosion. There's no great formal logical theory to it. It's just scaling up training data that unlocks everything. Scaling up training data for a transformer turns out to be enough to ace math.

60 pages into Lovecraft's short fiction. I get it now. He couldn't write for shit, which is fantastic, because everyone who has ever read these stories must have thought "Hey wait, that's not how you tell this," and then tried to do it themself.
