The replication-risk sequence is an essential bacterial DNA sequence linked to DNA gap formation. For the first time, we directly observed this gap formation at single-molecule resolution! We show that the gaps occur exclusively on the lagging strand and reveal why. www.biorxiv.org/cgi/content/...

Welcome to 2026 Australian Biophysics enthusiasts! A throwback to our annual meeting in November, with all our amazing prize winners. Hope to see you all again in Bendigo, 22-26 November!
Happy to share our most recent work www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/.... Here we describe how efficient DNA replication in E. coli is dependent on an interaction between SSB-ssDNA and the DNA polymerase (Pol III). Thanks to all the co-authors for their hard work!

And that brings #ASB2025 to an end - so many awards! Well done to everyone who won amongst a very high standard of science throughout the week. See you all next year in Bendigo!
Fantastic talk by @phatmattbaker.bsky.social as the McAuley-Hope prize recipient for 2025! A highly entertaining and informative journey through Matt's biophysics journey and the incredible bacterial flagellar motor.
Hearty congratulations to Assoc. Prof. Matthew Baker @phatmattbaker.bsky.social who was awarded the MacAulay-Hope Prize for originality and innovation in #biophysics at the @aus-soc-biophys.bsky.social meeting #ASB2025 at Griffith University Gold Coast campus.
Thank you Toby Allen and Ben Corry for that beautiful story, celebrating the life, work, and impact on our biophysics community that the late Shin-Ho Chung had. Now for a special session all about ion channels! #ASB2025
Starting day 3: Chris Garvey (Tech U Munich) - neutrons are great for studying biology! @aus-soc-biophys.bsky.social
Last night the Bob Robertson award was presented by Adelle Coster (UNSW), a beautiful talk integrating mathematics and biology. Well deserved! And very special to be joined by her dad Hans Coster, a legend in the Australian biophysics community! @lisannes.bsky.social @francesbiophys.bsky.social
Congratulations to Prof. Adelle Coster, UNSW, to whom I was honoured to present the 2025 Australian Society for Biophysics (ASB) Bob Roberston medal during ASB2025 at @griffith.edu.au. Adelle is pictured with ASB President, @lisannes.bsky.social; inaugural awardee Hans Coster; & myself 2009 medal.
The Wollongong crew have arrived in the gold coast for the #ASB2025 meeting! Just missing @lisannes.bsky.social who had presidential matters to attend to. Looking forward to the week of great science and catching up with the biophysics community in Aus!

Great talk by @yuhenglau.bsky.social! Small molecules, medium-sized peptides, and large cages. @molecularhorizons.bsky.social @helixhero.bsky.social
Why is it always #reviewer2? Surely editors do this on purpose now...
Early-morning starts in the lab are even better when you get treated to this view from the lab.
The first Molecular Horizons member catch up of 2025 in the Cedar Tree Courtyard The POMA committee presented the Publication of the Year awards for 2024 to the two winners - Jesse Michael and Nick Marzano. Congratulations to you both! 🔬🎉 #UOWResearch
Two more weeks to apply to our opening for a senior postdoc in biophysics; work on exciting projects in DNA replication and/or chromatin organization from an interest in instrumentation! Deadline Jan 15 and application link: my.corehr.com/pls/uoxrecru...
