likely STDs that poll better than this idea because of car brain, but a built in speed governor that logged every time you went above the speed limit in a given area and sent you a ticket every X number of times would uncontroversially save more american lives than basically any other single policy

the marginal loss of privacy relative to status quo is why I'm very "ehhh" about most perceived SURVEILLANCE STATE!!! objections to thing like speed cameras. I find it hard to give much of a shit. I already assume I'm never unwatched in a populated public area. might as well be used constructively

61 years after the Voting Rights Act became law, Texans are still fighting to be counted at the ballot box. Yesterday, the voice of the people was so loud that the Tarrant County Commissioners Court had no choice but to table their attempt to cut polling locations before the midterm election.

Blue Cross had refused to pay thousands of claims for the center’s patients, but on several occasions executives at the insurance company had signed special one-time deals with the center to pay for their wives’ cancer treatment. (Published April 2025)

“Slow Pay, Low Pay or No Pay”: Trial Reveals How Insurers Try to Wield Power Over Doctors

Blue Cross authorized mastectomies and breast reconstructions for women with cancer but refused to pay the full doctors’ bills. A jury called it fraud and awarded the practice $421 million.

Notice DOJ doesn't talk about its efforts to obtain state voter files anymore. They are 0-20 in those cases and today is the beginning of the quiet period -- states can no longer do systematic removals of names from the voter rolls. TLDR: We won!🥳

El-Sayed, Lawrence and McKinney all won progressive campaigns in Michigan last night by talking about climate and clean energy like it was a kitchen-table issue — because skyrocketing energy bills and endless wildfire smoke matter to people.

Your little oopsie "mistakes" had me worrying for a year of my life about my partner going to jail for up to a decade based on lies likely fed to you by the top of the federal government. Show everyone what you're covering up in these emails and texts. There's a reason you don't want them released.

Phew! Lots of pro-fossil fuel project stuff here, but in the detailsI found "Mary will fight to restore federal tax credits for solar, wind, hydropower projects that were cut by DC’s reconciliation bill" and "Mary will fight to expand investment in Alaska geothermal and biomass energy projects."

I heard Regina Spektor's song "Grand Hotel" for the first time just now and it sounds like the opening song of a musical. Gotta be on Broadway though, there's gotta be lots of moving set bits and perfectly timed fog and dancers and a shoe shine kid and a trap door that becomes a tunnel entrance.

El-Sayed: "My commitment to Jewish safety is the same commitment that I have to the safety of my own daughters. Because if there is one question of political philosophy that ought to animate us all, it's what would we do if we treated all our kids like they were all of our kids?"

the biggest presidential scandal in history. jeffrey epstein was a close friend and business associate of trump and they did crimes together! against children! its all pretty much out in the open now but its a smaller story than hillary's email server was for some reason

BREAKING: The New Mexico Department of Justice has sued Acting AG Todd Blanche and the DOJ, requesting the court for access to unredacted Epstein-related investigative files that the DOJ has been withholding.

I know it's worse for women but I'll just say that I feel this too. There's something so degrading & wearying & ... fraying about being constantly confronted with mean, ugly, brutish people. I want to feel solidarity toward humanity, I want to feel hope, & this shit just chips away at it.

It's demoralizing living in a nonstop Abuse-a-thon: we've had to learn the sordid details of so many men's abhorrent behavior; I mean this summer has been Graham Platner, Andrew Tate, Jared Leto, Max Miller, plus the horrific L.A. rape-murder of the child by the rapper, to name a few lowlights.

The NYT could have written a news story about this, with actual sources. Or at the very least they could have interviewed Ellison & asked him some tough questions. Instead they just handed over the most valuable media real estate in the world to a billionaire nepo baby to lobby for his company.

I spoke with 10 CNNers about David Ellison's essay in The NYT, in which he tried to convince the public he'll be a good steward of CNN. Suffice to say, no one at the network is buying what he's selling. “We all have eyes and ears and see what’s happening at CBS." www.status.news/p/david-elli...

He glances out the window of his carefully curated life and sees a vast, roaring crowd telling him to fuck off. His entourage of viziers quickly surrounds him, offering ketamine and comforting words. "No, my liege, they will soon know your greatness when your robot army is unveiled."

Think about how you are in the shrinking bubble of people who know how to read and process the meanings of written words, and how a handful of billionaires are doing their damnedest to shrink it further. You're in a literacy bubble, and a handful of the wealthiest freaks in history are killing it.

good thread. for anybody missing context this is the commercial TLDR its entire reason for being made was to help children understand not everything they see on TV, but instead children believed this was real and they wanted one. incredible stuff 🦛

When the House Hippo first appeared on TV, young children believed that the creature was real and wanted one in their home. From this point on, the House Hippo was cemented as a cultural icon. www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBfi... 🧵 7/10
