A while ago, before I broke out enough to write full time, I went looking for work and found nothing but 'AI trainer' 'jobs' available. What was hysterically funny was that one outfit wanted someone with multiple awards (think Hugo or Nebula) and commercial success to work for... $15/hour.

Art is not the picture on the wall or the 'meaning' behind it, but what happens to you as you engage with it. That's the actual art! That's what it means to engage with art, and art criticism is about trying to understand this.

The point of a good novel isn't "A happened, then B, then C," but how the story is written to provoke you as you read through it. Good writing *does something to you*, and the plot is just the vehicle for that. The novel is the feelings, thoughts, discomforts, uncertainties, and the realisations.

i don't think this is a hot take but if it is, it shouldn't be. opposition to GLP-1 meds is an attack on body autonomy the same as being anti-vax, anti-abortion, or anti-hrt. the existence of GLP-1 meds is a breakthrough for both T2 diabetes and obesity. wishing ill and rejecting it is anti science.

My point in all of this, in light of today's Discourse, is just to say: In 2022, we didn't know shit. We didn't even know what questions to ask. We made good faith assumptions. When we learned more, we made our own judgments, and anyone who follows me should know I am *viciously* anti-genAI.
