I remember September 11, 2001. The teacher rolling-in the TV cart to give us a view of current events — and, when the second plane came, when the collapses came, a view of death on a scale no 11-year-old can process. But I remember so much more than that. 1/

Dear Democrats, You will never be able to triangulate your way through racism/sexism/transphobia, because pushing a lighter, politer form of bigotry is always a lose-lose proposition. The bigots want the uncut stuff, while normal people aren't drawn to cowards who sell out. Stand your ground.

"Milo got arrested!" "That's good!" "By an unaccountable secret police force" "That's bad" "He supported them, though, so there's delicious irony at play." "That's good!" "But they came for him because fascist power has reached a point where petty infighting can lead to arrests" "That's bad"

ok but two things: 1. the bar isn't "helpful", its "truthful"; offering a bunch of lies with a smile isn't actually the goal here 2. people are pissed because the WH press insists on defending an ally of American fascism, not because they think you were lying about her being helpful

Opposition to data centers is maybe the most freakishly salient and bipartisan issue I’ve seen in years. “74% say slow down [data center development] until protections exist, including republicans 64-27.”

When you operate like this -- as most of the political world does -- there's no thought spared for things like societal or political outcomes. It's just the iron law of institutions all the way down: Third Way needs to raise Third Way's budget, and Republican wins might help them do that.

This is actually an incredibly good example of the perverse incentives in the political ecosystem: in order to please, mollify, and expand its donor pool, Third Way is incentivized to sabotage progressive Democrats so that it can later fundraise off of progressive Democrats losing.

The primaries are over, the Democratic Party is broke, and the Third Way is spending $15 million to fight other Democrats.

Jesse, I don't appreciate being threatened. I'm not insinuating anything -- I'm pointing out substantially similar phrasing between these ledes which I think you also would have noticed if you had written one of them. Journalistic norms encourage attribution. You know this.

I appreciate the work you did. It was good and important. But I would urge you to be careful — and more thoughtful — when making accusations or insinuations about/toward journalists.

We're going to see a lot of reporting about the people ICE has hired over the next few years, but it's hard to imagine how it could get much worse than this.

Brouillette, 37, told his ex-wife Ashley Brouillette late last year that he had been hired by ICE. She said that because of his long history of psychiatric issues, she thought he was having a mental health episode and she didn’t believe him. She didn’t realize he’d been telling the truth until this week, when videos began circulating online of the moments surrounding the shooting.
