i am having to explain rape culture to OTHER WOMEN. god, this is exhausting. so many women want to give men a good-boy cookie just because they're not actively drugging and/or assaulting women. get it together, sisters. stop being pick-mes for the bystanders and the enablers.

BACKROOMS. diagnosis: meh. the meditation on the addicted brain - and the resulting destruction - was so moving. & Ejiofor was *phenomenal.* but the final act felt cheap, & rushed, & played for "look how weird this can be!" body-horror gasps rather than the narrative heft the first scenes promised.

“It’s not ALL men.” None of the 50+ men the Cornell rapists invited to come join them in raping a woman they’d drugged went to the authorities or tried to stop it. Not all men would rape an unconscious woman, but where are the men who’d try to stop it, or EVEN FUCKING OBJECT?
