Members of the public verbally confronted Senator Scott Wiener about his policies in Dolores Park on Friday at the Trans March. Our safety team takes the safety and wellbeing of our participants very seriously. Scott Wiener was at no point in danger. Historically, the public has expressed their opinions to politicians at Trans March, as is their right. In fact, Trans March has not featured politicians in our programming as a matter of policy since 2016, when Scott Wiener himself was criticized over housing, homelessness, and development issues; including supporting market-rate housing policies, opposing some tenant-backed measures, and receiving significant support from real estate interests. Trans March participants holding politicians accountable is nothing new. Immediately following the incident, instead of engaging Trans March directly to resolve his concerns, Senator Scott Wiener's campaign went to social media and used the confrontation in fundraising communications. We are particularly disappointed that, while Senator Wiener continues to amplify this incident from Friday in national press interviews, he has failed to address the harm and disproportionate response from SFPD inflicted upon transgender people, children, families, and their allies on Friday night. The role of Trans March and the greater movement for trans liberation is to focus on the material conditions affecting transgender people. Across the country, transgender people are facing an unprecedented wave of legislative and legal attacks on our rights and our humanity. Most recently, the Supreme Court allowed restrictions on transgender women participating in women's sports to stand, marking another setback that will have real consequences for transgender youth and adults alike In moments like these, our community needs more than symbolic gestures, we need leaders who will speak up, invest in our communities, and take meaningful action to defend our rights and dignity.This year's theme, "One Struggle, One Fight," honors the legacy of our ancestors. Following the example of Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, whose organizing recognized that liberation is built through solidarity, we continue to stand alongside immigrants, unhoused communities, anti-imperialist movements, social justice organizers, and all those working toward collective freedom. Participation comes with shared expectations. Trans March is a community-led event rooted in transgender liberation. Everyone is welcome to participate, provided they respect our values, follow the direction of organizers and our safety team, and recognize that this space is led by and for the community. We welcome allies who come to listen, learn, and stand in solidarity because collective liberation remains our north star. Trans March exists to build a world where all transgender and gender-nonconforming (T/GNC) people are safe, loved, and empowered. At a time when trans communities are facing escalating political attacks across the country, creating spaces where we can gather in safety, celebration, and solidarity has never been more important. The San Francisco Trans March is far from just one day of programming, but rather a year-round organization for political education, trans empowerment, and community networking. We encourage everyone to get involved, whether that is sharing our mission, donating, volunteering, or attending our political education organizing meetings.

When my kids got their HPV vaccines last week I hyped it up like crazy. Sure it hurts (it's a pretty painful one compared to covid or flu) but it PREVENTS CANCER.
