And this combo - of a liberal politician 1. obsessing about mild criticism of Israel as the locus of antisemitism in Germany, while literal neo-Nazis win elections 2. using the exact kind of gutter anti-Muslim racism of those neo-Nazis in the process is the perfect encapsulation of how we got here
In particular invoking this idea, also favoured by Friedrich Merz, of "imported antisemitism", which holds that 21st century Germany has so learned from its past that it contains no antisemitism except that brought in by immigrants, the evidence being that some of them are pro-Palestine
Even if she sincerely believes that The Left's tepid criticism of Israel constitutes antisemitism, there is literally no reason to specify "from Neukölln" (not even the party's strongest district!) except to conjure up images of brown people. It is a racist dogwhistle. Franziska Brantner is a racist
What I'm taking from this is that Germany's centrist parties are just letting the far right run rampant because they like refuse to accept the idea point blank that criticism of Israel is not conflated with antisemitism
