I love people, and I play with words. The Divine is Love, and Love is for you.

‪A reminder that screaming, raging, and throwing rocks into the void can all be prayers. ‬ ‪God can take it. God will hear you. She may even be screaming with you. ‬

I preached about how white middle class respectability has become an idol in American churches. Important, and serious. But it’s extra fun in a congregation that can laugh about double entendres like “doing lines in church.” (communion, not cocaine)

Sometimes being a good pastor is coming out as a medical cannabis user to help de stigmatize it. But also talking about responsible use, how edibles are much stronger than the joints boomers might have smoked in college, and how we would never put THC in our baked goods without telling everyone

being properly open-minded doesn’t mean shrugging every time you encounter a fucked up viewpoint and saying you guess it takes all kinds. it means interrogating the viewpoints you encounter and deciding whether they’re fucked up. being thoughtful and interested but ultimately making a firm call

If you don’t have trans women in your life, including Black trans women, and yes including Black trans women who work the streets, you are missing out on some of the beauty in the world. You are missing part of the image of the Divine.

Is it time yet to talk about how many progressives who loved Dolly still hold the anti Appalachian stigma she spoke out against? Poor white rural people are *also* marginalized, oppressed, and economically exploited.

My therapist: I’m so proud of you for admitting thar to me. Me: don’t be. You’re my therapist. You’re easy. Him: I can be a judgy bitch! Me: You’re not allowed to judge me. I know your ethics! Him: therapy is much harder with someone who knows all the rules!

Today is the 18th anniversary of my ordination. This was a Sunday that I didn’t preach, Vicar Jenny led most of worship, and many parts of the service were lead by lay leaders.

It’s Jesus the promiscuous farmer Sunday! That man’s just throwing his seed everywhere! (Mathew 13. Not only is the word “seed” the same as the word for “sperm,” they literally thought they were the same thing.)

My favorite thing is when conservatives try to hit me with “you probably think baby-killing is Biblical.” And I know they’re accusing me of supporting abortion. (I do!)

Not Gay as in “God loves you,” Queer as in “The Divine reorders the universe to make space for your unique and beloved self.” Yes, this is a Mathew Vines Reformation project subtweet

In honor of Pride, a repost: (CN sexual language) May the Mighty One dance Her fierce dance on all the walls of injustice. May the Strong, Proud Mama keep all Her babies safe. May the Femme of all Femmes paint us in beauty.

Biblical Theology recs please! I have a lay leader, well educated and willing to read hard stuff, who is looking for a commentary on Luke or Luke/Acts. Would love to give him some liberation theology. What would you recommend?

People who don’t love Queer and Trans people are missing out on so much joy. How could you not love watching someone’s delight at discovering their true selves? Their true loves? It’s so fucking beautiful

My beloved Queer ones, Our lives are holy. Our dancing is holy. Our protest is holy. Our community is holy. Our gender presentations are holy. Our bodies are holy. Our sex is holy. Our love is holy.

When I have to talk to men about their own sexist actions, I try to remember all the times my BIPOC friends and colleagues have had to sit me down and explain my own racist actions to me. (And let’s be real, 99% of the time that has been Black women.)

I just accidentally said “God invites us into a three-way” mid sermon. I didn’t mean to, and that isn’t language I think is helpful from the pulpit. But also, not wrong.
